I actually quite like Tavish, but I've generally heard it pronounced with a short A or AW/AH sound ... which makes sense, being basically a vocative form of Thàmhais (TAW-vish). The long A "TAY-vis" pronunciation seems to have been gleaned from the name Davis -- a link that IS listed on some random naming sites, but not one I subscribe to personally -- so to me, it just seems a flawed pronunciation or meaning, at best (since that would then change it from a form of Thàmhais, meaning twin, to a form of David).

So as it stands, Tavis, said TAY-vis, brings to mind Davis and Travis (considering first sound, then appearance), and seems a bit forced,

I've only ever heard it as tav-is, like Tavish without the h.
