Just to clarify ... Brad Allen IS your dh, correct? I'm just a little confused, since the title implies a sibling name to follow (meaning I first read Brad Allen as the older brother's name LOL).

My mom had a German Shorthair Pointer named Gentry.

Fine for a dog, not so much for a person.

Yes, for clarification, Brad Allen is my husband, whom we are naming our son after. The other 3 names are the ones in the running..thanks for voting...hopes this helps clarify the question.

I think what she meant was, what is your current child's name? The title of the poll is about voting for a "sibling's name", which implies we'd see what your kid's name is, not your husband's.

I'm a bit curious, myself. If we knew what your kid's name was, that might help to suggest a name that goes well with it.

Our son's name is Grayson.

The previous poster was right ... knowing your son's name is Grayson completely changes my opinion here. While Gavin seems quite a bit more common/popular than you might like, given Gentry, I'd have normally voted for it in a second. Gentry simply isn't my style (seems fairly pompous and presumptuous, along the same lines as naming a child Lord, Baron or Aristocrat, if you KWIM).

Grayson and Gavin are just much too similar, however, both two syllables beginning with the same G sound and ending in the same N sound. Another G at all is too matchy for my taste -- unless the one name you truly loved happened to be a G -- but if you must use one, I'd at least try to find something with a slightly different sound to preserve some sense of individuality. Otherwise, we'd just call our children by birth order ... One, Two, etc. ;)

So despite my personal feelings about the word gentry as a name, I went back and changed my vote.

I ditto Kelli. Gentry isn't my style at all but I feel it goes better with Grayson. Changing my vote too! :)

I really dislike Gentry. It has a very snobbish feel to me, like calling your child Aristocracy or Upper Class. Plus, there's the term gentrification--the renewal of a crumbling/low-income neighborhood and subsequent pricing out of longtime residents from the neighborhood--which has an extremely negative connotation for me.

I do agree with pp that Grayson and Gavin are too matchy-matchy for me, but I still like it better than Gentry.

I don't care for the name Gentry, either, for the same reasons others have already pointed out. Are you thinking of Gentry on account of the country singer, Montgomery Gentry? If so, you could always name him Montgomery.

I like the name Gavin a lot!
