Megan/Meghan has always been one of my favorite names for a girl.
I like Caitlin, but this Catelyn spelling looks really odd to me. Also, it's very popular. I voted for Meghan (but prefer Megan).
What are your other kids names (to see what goes best with them)

I would love to see Catherine, nn Cate on that list ;)
Good luck,
Brooke
Forgot to include the names of my other little ones:
DD Emily Lauren 10/31/99
DS Jaxon Luke 2/6/02
DD baby girl edd 8/28/07
Our last name begins with "G"
Knowing your other children are Emily and Jaxon, I'd eliminate Courtney as much more dated than either of those. Caitlin or Megan are both great fits, but I agree with some others that I prefer these spellings.
I'd understand if you were simply using the most popular Anglicized form here in the US (I have a Kaitlyn, so I did all this a few years back LOL) or trying to honor Kate + Lynn (using the Katelyn form generally considered of separate origin, not simply an Anglicized spelling of Caitlin), but to take the original Celtic C spelling and randomly change it to "Catelyn" seems odd. Especially since you didn't use a kre8iv spelling for Emily, it follows that you'd use either the traditional Irish or "American" version here as well. Catelyn and Emmaleigh/Emulee/Emeley -- both unusual, altered spellings -- would make sense together, but Emily and Caitlin (classic/traditional) or Emily and Kaitlyn (common/popular) are much more appealing here.
Megan is just a personal preference, but it's also a neat link that all three would then have five-letter names. ;)

I guess my biggest reasoning for going with the 'Catelyn' spelling was purely because I wanted to call her "Cate". DH and my DD both love "Cate", but they are a bit indifferent to Catelyn/Caitlin/etc... but it seemed weird to just name her 'Cate' and not have that be short for something more formal. I know Catherine is an option, but to be honest, I know a Catherine and she isn't the nicest person, so the thought of my little girl sharing her name isn't appealing.
I actually wanted to go with Emilee or Emilie, but my MIL is "Emily" (traditional) and it seemed best to keep the spelling the same if our DD was going to be a namesake. It's funny, my DD now asks why we didn't spell her name Emilee - she likes that spelling better! I think the only reason my DH went along with Jaxon was because his name is Jason, and he liked the similarity in spelling.
Argh! I appreciate all the inputs. This has been a really tough & frustrating decision!
Sincerely,
Chris

Oh! You can ABSOLUTELY name her Caitlin and call her Cate.
I love Caitlin. It's a beautiful name and a long-time favorite of mine. It's too popular for my tastes, but if popularity doesn't bother you, I say go for it. I actually think Caitlin is a perfect sister for Emily and Jaxon.
I much prefer the original Irish spelling. Catelyn just looks very odd to me. If you're reasoning behind the Catelyn spelling is the nn Cate, I say use Caitlin and then call her Cate. There is no rule that says the nn must be spelled out exactly in the full name. (After you don't see CATE in Catherine either! or Rick in Richard... Or Mike in Michael... Or Meg in Margaret... You get the idea!) If it really bothers you not see it spelled out, you could spell Cate different. Caitlin nn Cait is adorable.
I also really love Megan. Courtney is okay to me -- not a favorite, but I don't really dislike it either.
Thanks so much, unc_annie, you bring up some great points about the other nicknames. I guess it's true that we won't really spell her nn...
Keep your fingers crossed that DH and I can agree on one of these! I'm tired of calling my little one "Baby Girl!" Besides, we still have the middle name to tackle!
