I don't know that many under four, but when we were expecting our five-year-old, there were a good half-dozen parents in our birthing class all planning on naming their dds Olivia (a small midwife's class, btw ... these parents made up roughly half of it LOL). That was in a suburb of Philadelphia, so I'm guessing it's most popular with an upper-middle-class, urban set (or at least it was five years ago ... trends tend to trickle down).

Well, my dilemma is this: My husband absolutely LOVES the name Liv, and I like it a lot also, but I don't know if I could use Liv as the given name. DH likes Olivia, but it's just so popular. However, I'm willing to consider it just because DH is so picky and he actually really likes this one. Plus, maybe if I compromise w/ him he'll let me use a boy name besides Joseph, LOL. I don't like Olive, and to me Livia just seems like Olivia w/o the O, even though I know it is a valid, separate name. I just don't know!!!

Hey, Liz. Does your dh like Liv pronounced like the shortening of Olivia or like the separate name, LEEV? Just curious. ;)
On to the real reason for my reply LOL ... have you considered any other names you could use Liv as a nn for? Elizabeth (yes, for you ... I didn't forget LOL), Lydia or even something like Eveline? If you're open to something like that, I'm sure we could come up with some other, less common options for you.

Yes, like the 'liv' in Olivia. I don't know how I feel about using it as a nn for a less-obvious name. Hmmm...I'll think on that and run it by DH. Let me know if you think of others that it could be used with.

I know 1 Olivia who is 3 and 1 Livia who is a baby. I had the same reaction to the Livia when my DH told me the name I thought he had gotten it wrong!
If your DH loves the NN Liv and you like Olivia, I say GO FOR IT!! Yes, is it popular, but you are giving her a NN which will set her apart. It is such a beautiful name, one of my faves but my last name begins with J and I would hate for my kid to have the initials OJ!!

I think those already mentioned were Olive, Elizabeth/Elisabeth, Lydia, Eveline/Evelina and Liviana (if I'm remembering correctly LOL). Some others:
Just a few more options. Really, I think anything with a prominent L and V sound could easily lend itself to Liv (no matter the order, V being such a strong sound, KWIM?). Also, anything Libby or Liddy
