Correct pronunciation of Eoghan

  • O-in (as Owen or Eoin)
  • YO-in
  • YOU-in (as Ewan)
  • either O-in or YO-in
  • either YO-in or YOU-in
  • either O-in or YOU-in
  • O-in, YO-in and YOU-in are all okay
  • I've seen several pronunciations for this, but don't know which is standard.

  • Which is correct and if several are correct, which is your favorite?

Technically it's "either O-in or YO-in," but they're not that different. It's basically a more stressed pronunciation of the Eo- beginning ... EEO-in (long E) said quickly sounds a bit more like YO-in than simply O-in, but they're nearly identical, if that makes sense.

Ewan is often taken as stemming from Eoghan, so that's why you might see YOU-in listed, but Ewan would be the altered form/pronunciation, so it doesn't completely follow that Eoghan would be said the same way. In other words, that
