Our older daughter's name is Valerie Nicole and our last name is Richardson.

DH and I cannot for the life of us decide on the name for this baby (due in September). We can agree on several first names (possible middle names are just placeholders so suggestions are welcome). Please help!

Kathrine Elizabeth (nn Kate)

Isabella Grace (nn Bella or Izzy)

Gabriella Noelle (nn Gaby or Ella)

Thank you!

I first have to ask if popularity bothers you? In terms of middle names, Elizabeth, Grace, and Noelle are considered to be "fillers" and are pretty boring and common. I saw that you mentioned that they are just placeholders which I was glad to hear. I would go with something a bit less expected.

The first names you have chosen are quite popular too.

Katherine is #36 on the SSA lists for 2006 with similar spellings Katharine, Catherine, and Kathryn also listed. You have to keep in mind that Kaitlyn (and all its various spellings- Kaitlin, Caitlin, Katelyn, etc.) often use the nn Kate too.

Isabella has jumped to number FOUR on the SSA lists so it has become REALLY popular. Isabela is also a spelling listed, and then there is Isabel, Isobel, and Isabelle. If you are really stuck on the name, I would suggest using Isabel or Isobel as it is less frilly than the ultra-feminine Isabella and is less popular.

Gabriella, like Isabella, falls into the popular -ella group and is #50 on the SSA lists. Gabrielle is 62 and the similar Gabriel, for boys, is also up there.

This doesn't have to be a bad thing, necessarily, but it is something to be aware of. Personally, I would avoid all three names due to popularity, but that is just me.

Here are some combos that I like:

Katherine Simone, Katherine Adele, Katherine Blythe, Katherine Iris, Katherine Scarlett, Katherine Ada, Katherine Lorelei, Katherine Greta

Isabella Chloe, Isabella Mae, Isabella Corinne, Isabella Tess, Isabella Charlotte, Isabella Felicity

Gabriella Imogen, Gabriella Jane, Gabriella Faye, Gabriella Giselle (nn Gigi), Gabriella Celeste

Other names you might like that aren't so popular:

Annabel

Georgia/Georgiana

Leah

Madeleine (although beware because the similar Madison is very trendy)

Charlotte

Scarlett

Rebekah

Carissa

Matilda

Bridget

Tabitha

One of my best friend's twins is Isabella Grace. I think it's beautiful, but I know Isabella and Grace are both super popular/trendy right now.

I like Katherine a lot, but I'd pair it with a less common mn. Gabriella is also pretty.
