I like Lillian and Lilian equally (and they're both valid). Lilyan just looks misspelled, and despite having the Lily- beginning, literally appears to cut an entire syllable out of the name, since it would be said Lil-yan rather than lil-ee-an. I'd easily eliminate that one.

With the single "l", it looks to me as if it would be pronounced LIE-lee-ann. And even worse, Lilyan looks like "LIL-YAN". Just keep it with the proper spelling; there is no point changing it.

Please do not name your daughter with the -y spelling; looks too weird! I like "Lillian" with the 2 l's - it flows better!

I could be wrong Nikki, but I believe Lilian is the original spelling, and the double-L form a variation of that. ;) Only mentioning it because I, too, mentally picture Lillian when someone mentions the name. Just one of those things. LOL

Ps. Just checked BTN and it does trace Lillian back through Lilian, Liliana and ultimately to the Latin word for lily, lilium. ;)

Thanks for the info. That is interesting about the original being Lilian. I really like Liliana, but we have an Italian last name.."Cassamo" and DH thinks there are too many vowels... I was due last Thursday, so we better make up our minds....anyday now (hopefully)
