DH and I must be counting on this to be a boy because we really haven't nailed down our girl option and the baby is due (but apparently not coming) today. Curious about your thoughts. I have a personal favorite, and he does, too. They are not the same favorite, but we both can live with any of the three. His favorite is probably my last choice of the three and my favorite is probably his least favorite. The middle one for both of us is the first name of a daughter of a friend so we're hesitant about using that. Anyway, just thougth I'd get some thoughts.
Our 2 year old DD is Karoline Elizabeth (K because of Danish ancestry, not because of K trends, in fact that drives me crazy). If this one is a boy he will be William Phillip.
Peace,
Stephanie
Oh yeah - and Eve is sort of family. It honors both of DH's grandmothers, Eva and Evelyn.

I think all three are beautiful names.
Well, the name Eve has grown on me ever since I came up with it as a middle name, but we're avoiding biblical names for first names. I'm a minister, and as a professor of mine once said about naming his own daughter, "She's going to have enough problems just being a 'preacher's kid' we thought we avoid the whole Bible thing!" I've kind of got the same theory.
Thanks for the input! It's fun to see what folks think. I'll post with which ones were whose favorites when there are a few more votes. I'm having a good time watching this though! I predicted the front-runner so far.
Peace,
Stephanie
I can't help because I love all three names about equally.
Well, you found my favorite - Margaret, and it's also partly for the nickname Meg. I was really wanting to honor my grandmother, Mary Eleanor G___, with this baby, but DH vetoed Eleanor and we couldn't find anything that went with Mary as a first name that we liked enough. HOWEVER, no one EVER called her Mary anyway, she went by Meg her whole life that I can tell because of her maiden name initials, M. E. G.. I thought Margaret would be the perfect name knowing I would use the nickname Meg.
DH is NOT as into the "old lady" names as I am, so Margaret never sit well with him. At one point he agreed to it, but I knew he was just letting me have it, but didn't like it a lot.
Laura is another name that has always been high on my list but as a huge Little House (books) fan, having a Karoline and a Laura as a siblings just sounded silly to me (my issue, I know). DH threw Lauren into the mix, and while it's a little higher on the popularity charts than I'd prefer, it really works for me, too. Lauren is his favorite.
Charlotte came to us purely from the friend in playgroup and we both really like it, too. It's the one that's #2 for each of us; we each have our own favorite, then Charlotte, then the others favorite. Oi! Now the playgroup connection isn't really too much of an issue since we'll be moving out of state most likely in the next couple of months. That's just the place where we find it.
So, all that said, we will most likely go with Lauren. I think he's much less comfortable with Margaret than I am with Lauren, and I think I'd rather have at least one of our favorites be the one we go with. I just knew Charlotte would be ahead - I do LOVE it as a name. It's just the perfect mix of "old lady" and young and spunky and grown up and nickname-able, but not needing a nickname. I love that name, but it just hasn't stuck with either of us strong enough to probably make it to the top. We'll see! I'm still kind of bummed about not being able to honor my Gram Meg, but oh well. I tried Eleanor as a nn with my DH, but even that didn't work.
Maybe it'll just be a boy and we won't have to worry!!! :) Now we just need to to get here! One day overdue now, and I'm considering castor oil to try to avoid my induction scheduled tomorrow. I'd still take some votes and comments. I'm interested in what folks have to say!
Peace,
Stephanie
Would he go for Megan?
good luck,
valerie
I can't remember what happened to Megan in our discussions. Maybe I should bring that one up again. I know it was thrown out there a long time ago, but I couldn't tell you for the life of me what the reaction was.
I'm not into Laurel. Maybe it's because of the only person I know of who has that name. Not a bad woman, just a classmate who left me with a specific impression of the name.
I know what you mean about the "datedness" of Lauren. I read about that a lot and I see it in the statistics, but then I have only known one Lauren ever, too, and none from the 80s, only the 90s when it peaked. There's a high schooler at our church named Lauren. I tend to think of Megan as more dated, because I know several of Megans all in the 90s, when it peaked. Actually, both names follow a very similar pattern of peaking in the 90s, but Megan just has dropped off more dramatically in recent years.
Ho hum! I can definitely live with any of the three!
Peace,
Stephanie
