I've known a girl Koby, but no others IRL. I'd like Colby a lot more, FWIW. It's not too bad to me though.

I prefer this name spelled Kobe. Coby/Koby look a little "made-up" to me. I'd go with Kobe or Colby. :)

I voted for the Coby spelling, though in all honesty, they both look trendily misspelled to me. Coby looks like it wants to be either Colby or Cody, and Koby looks like it's pushing its way into the trend of K with Y names for girls. Kaylie, Kylie, Kyleigh, Kaylee, etc. I prefer the Kobe spelling, and that's actually the only way I've seen this name spelled until now.

I don't think I'd (personally) go with Koby- -as it looks like a misspelling of a) a type of beef or b) a basketball player who was put on trial for raping a girl that was not his wife.

I like Colby so much better-- and Coby is going to look like a misspelling of Colby anyway.

I'm sorry, I couldn't vote, I honestly don't know which spelling is better.

are you ok with the name? because if you aren't than you guys should just keep looking... you will have to call him this forever!
i don't mind the name - Colby is a little more my style though (just don't give him the middle name Jack:)
I think the spelling Kobe looks more masculine though...

Good Luck

Thanks everyone for the input-

Argh this is a hard one, Dh loves the name but doesnt know how he'd spell it anyway, I agree with most of you and like the spelling 'Kobe' but I'm concerned no one will know how to pronounce it when they see it. I understand the name seems to remind a lot of Americans of a rapist, but we never heard anything of it here in Australia so it's not a problem really. "Colby" just makes me instantly think of cheese so it's a no for me! ;)

If I had my choice I'd name my son Alexander, Fletcher, Jasper or Oliver, but Dh cant stand any of them. I pretty much had final say over ds#1's name so I thought it would be fair to let dh name #2 (within reason!) but I'm just not so sure!!! Maybe I can convince him to go Thomas Coby/Kobe instead....

Thanks again :)

Wow, that is hard to find a compromise between your favorites and Kobe! What is your 1st DS named? I think it is important to find something that meshes well together, and from the looks of your top picks, it doesn't seem that Kobe would. Just a thought!

Perhaps you could put together a list of a few names that you like, and let him pick his favorite off that list. I would not just let my DH named any of our kids (really, not even a pet or anything, haha).

I know at least three dogs named Koby, so it's really not my style for a little boy.
