Sushi for Beginners by Marian Keyes

I thought this was one of Keyes' better books. I seem to prefer the ones that focus on multiple characters and storylines, and Sushi was one of them.

The three main characters are Clodaugh, Lisa, and Ashling. Clodaugh and Ashling have been friends since childhood, but their lives are now very different. Clodaugh is married to Dylan, a handsome man with a good job. She is a homemaker and mother of 2 children, who are basically holy terrors. Her life seems perfect to everyone else, but Clodaugh is really not happy.

Lisa isn't happy either. She is a workaholic magazine editor who thought she'd be moving from London to New York. Instead she is dispatched to Dublin to launch Colleen magazine. Lisa hates Dublin and its provencial ways. Lisa is also dealing with a split from her husband, Oliver.

Ashling was sacked from a Good Housekeeping-type magazine for giving bad advice on how to get a stain from a couch. Now she is to be assistant editor at Colleen. With a great new job and finally free of her on-again off-again boyfriend, Ashling's future looks bright. But with Lisa for a boss and a geeky comedian asking her out, it won't be as tame as she expects.

Parts of the book just cracked me up, and I liked all of the characters even if I didn't always relate to them.

I just responded in Vicky's post about Watermelon that I haven't read this author. This sounds like a good one, too. Now I'll have to be sure to check out some of her books. Thanks for the review.
