April's Wishlists/Trades/Freebies.

Thought I'd start this thread for us this month. My stack of books is too big, and I don't have the time right now to go through it, so I will come back later to post my list. But others can go ahead and get started . . . .

Please use this thread to offer up your trades and freebies and ask for your wishlists. You may find a match!

Wishlists are: Books you would like to receive and read. You may find a member has your wish and is willing to give it to you.

Trades are: Books you would like to get rid of in exchange for one you would like. Someone may have just what you're looking for!

Freebies are: Books you are done with and are willing to part with. Someone here may want it!

Please Remember: This thread is voluntary. You do not need to have books available every month to participate.

Not a problem, Jen. I hope you're feeling better soon!

Okay. I am going to get my butt off the chair and come back when I've got my books organized! I'll be right back. . . .

Okay. I'm back. Whew! Here we go. . . .

Came back to edit 'cause I found some more books!

Freebies: Grab them now! Since I've taken the time to pull them off the shelf, I will give any not 'grabbed' here to either New Orleans or my local library!
  • The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency Series by Alexander McCall Smith nos. 1-5
  • The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver (paperback)
  • Turning Angel by Greg Iles (murder mystery)
  • Because I Said So by C. Peri and K. Moses (essays written by mothers)
  • A Thousand Years Over a Hot Stove by Laura Schenone (sort of an anthropological study of women's history via "food, recipes and remembrances")
  • Elizabeth Costello by J.M. Coetzee (He also wrote Disgrace which I thought was better!)
  • The Courage Consort by Michael Faber (short stories by the guy who wrote The Crimson Petal and the White)
  • The Ha-Ha by Dave King (enjoyable novel about a disabled Vietnam vet moving home and trying to get his life back together)
  • Light on Snow by Anita Shreve
  • Entering Normal by Anne D. LeClaire
  • Breath, Eyes, Memory; Krik? Krak!; the Farming of Bones by Edwidge Danticat (that's 3 different books, paperback)
  • Freaky Deaky by Elmore Leonard (paperback)
  • Basket Case by Carl Hiaasen (paperback)
  • The Cradle Will Fall by Mary Higgins Clark (paperback)
  • The Final Procedure by Stan Pottinger (medical mystery, paperback)
  • The Stupidest Angel by Christopher Moore
  • Zorro by Isabel Allende (started this a while ago -- my bookmark is still in it -- just could not get into it)

You May Borrow It But I'd Like It Back: These are on my TBR shelf collecting dust. I know I'll read them someday, but there's no sense in wasting them if someone else would like to read it first!

  • East of Eden by John Steinbeck
  • Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston
  • Cane River by Lalita Tademy
  • Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishigura
  • Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See
  • Wickett's Remedy by Myla Goldberg
  • The Thin Place by Kathryn Davis
  • White Teeth by Zadie Smith
  • Rattled by Debra Galant (This is a new novel written by a woman who lives in my town. It is being touted as a very funny satire of suburbia -- and the suburbia she's describing is where I live! This is a jacket quote: "What happens when one self-absorbed suburban housewife clashes with an animal rights group, a dishonest real estate mogul and an endangered rattlesnake? The answer is Rattled by Debra Galant.

Wish List: Books on my TBR list that I'd like to have or borrow.

  • The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards
  • Atonement by Ian McEwan
  • Slammerkin -- can't remember the author, but figure you'd know if you own it!
  • History of Love by Nicole Krauss (don't know anything about it, but my mother read it and liked it)

Whew! Did you make it through the whole list?!?!?! TIA to anyone who might be able to respond!

Would I be greedy if I had a few I wouldn't mind reading?

Sure you'd be greedy, Julie, but when it comes to books -- who cares!! :o) Send me your address via e-mail me at lukareATcomcastDOTnet. Please put 'iVillage Book Group' or something similar in the Subject because I won't recognize you.
