Is this one of the Rainie Connor series? I've only read one of those so far, and am not sure how much I like Rainie.

No, I don't recall a Rainie. I think it's the second of the Bobby Dodge series. The first was Alone, which I didn't read, but there were references in this one to a first crime the detective worked on.

Did you read Gone by Lisa Gardner?

Yes, I read Gone. I had a feeling that it was not Rainie at here best, or even her usual, since she was drinking. But what bothered me most was her inaction for so long after she was kidnapped. She didn't try to help herself at all. It was driving me nuts. I'm a *take action* sort of person. LOL.

I just thought maybe all the similar, one-word, titles were all Rianie books. I'll try some of her others. Thanks!

That's what I thought too but I read Gone first and Alone was different.

I sometimes read amazon reviews, & always read jackets before I read a book. In Gone, it definitely sounded like that case where the mother & infant were killed was what set her off drinking, after having been sober for years. But she's obviously a very flawed character all around, as she had an abusive childhood, etc. That's probably why I don't like her.
