Our local library has a program for the kids to read so many books over the summer and I saw Barnes & Nobel had a program. Do you know of any other programs out there to motivate our kids over the summer?

My 3rd grader is doing the Barnes and Noble one. When he reads eight different books and tells what his favorite part was about each, he can take it in and get a free book from a selection of 3rd grade level books. The superintendent here does a summer reading program every year (even as far back as when I was in school!). The kids have to read 10 books or 1000 pages and they get a certificate when they return to school in the fall. my 3rd grader and kindergartner are both doing that. And our governor does a Summer Reading challenge, where the kids are to read for 20 minutes at least five days out of the week. At the end of the summer they get a prize. All of the kids are doing that. Our library does a program as well, but with all we are already doing, plus our other summer activities, I felt we had plenty.

Build-A-Bear Workshop usually does a summer reading program.

Aly is too old for most reading programs now, but she is doing the teen program at our library.
