Hello all,

I posted within the last few weeks to ask what Dieting Buddies was. In one response someone had ask me what my diet plan was. DUH !!!!!! I don't know, maybe the *poof fairy*

So I have been doing some looking around. I'm the one with the gym in her downstairs. Ha!

I'm 51 yrs old, 100 lbs over weight, right now I am at home. Plan on getting a job within the next couple of months. My biggest downfall is that it's just me and hubby now so we eat out alot. He too is overweight but at least he has a phsyical job.I've always felt like weight watchers would be the one for me. I don't want anything where you have amino acid drinks and stuff like that. I have a friend that has spent thousands of dollars goiing to these programs and as long as she had these drinks and the stuff she had to get from them she would loose but without she would gain. She like me is as big as ever been.

I just got finished with looking at the South Beach Diet. Reading it really didn't make me want to jump right into it. I would appreciate any input that anyone would like to give.At this point in my life I don't have any diseases that come from this much weight (250). I have had a heart cath in Dec. of last year because the stress test was suppose to have showed something. No so, bad stress test. Thank goodness all was fine. Arteries in great shape. Okay I'm rambling, which I'm good at. You can learn alot about me in my profile. Will be looking forward to hearing from some of you. Thanks. Debbie

Hi Debbie,

Glad you found us again! I don't know much about the South Beach diet (read that as nothing about it). Sometimes it just takes trial and error to find a plan that you like that and that works for you. My theory is find something that you don't think of as a diet, but a life style change. Diets are great for a quick fix after the holidays, ya know, maybe 5 or 10 lbs most people pick up between Thanksgiving and Christmas, but, for long term sustained weight loss it usually takes some changes. I know others here are a lot more informed than I am. Anyway I just wanted to say "hi" and add my .02.

Eating out all of the time can be hard on any plan....the voice of experience speaks LOUDLEY.

Welcome back, Debbie! I am so happy you found your way back to us! I KNOW you can find a way to lose the weight you want to lose. If it's Weight Watchers, then GO FOR IT! And don't look back. Be as active as you can (make a point to be!). Even if you eat out, eat smaller portions (your body won't suffer, I assure you!LOL). Drink lots of water (it's good for so many reasons). And never give up. Don't stop just because of one bad choice or one bad day, keep going!

I hope you stick around and become a buddy...I wish you much luck in your efforts and look forward to seeing you more,

Hugs,

Roni :o)

Welcome back, Debbie!

I've never had any success with the "drink" diets either. I'm always hungry, and those shakes don't taste nearly as good as they look. You asked for input, so I want to tell you what's been going on with my mother and me and our weight loss attempts. We're both reducing our carbs, and it's working! My mom cut out all pasta, rice, bread, and potatoes, and lost 16 pounds in about two weeks! I didn't want to go that drastic, so I've cut out carbs until dinner time. At dinner I can have what I want as long as I stay within my calorie limit. I've been losing steadily ever since I tried this, and I'm not hungry. I've counted calories for a long time, and I haven't changed the amount I'm allowed to eat, but just lowering the carbs seemed to make all the difference.

Whatever program you pick, go-go-go for it. The most important part of the program is you and your willingness to stick to it. You CAN do this!

:o) - Karen

I would like to thank each and everyone of you who have answered my post, it really means alot to me.I think I have found the community for helping me and encouraging me for my weight lose program. You ladies have really been super. I would like to start something this next week. Does anyone do water arobics? I have thought about checking into that also, I have done the regular ones but they really hurt my knees (one I've had surgery on). Maybe after some of the weight comes off I could do them with out pain.

I'm going to tell you right off the top that I can really ramble on. Ha! Betcha already knew that..... I hope you all have a very nice weekend. Bye for now, wil check back in Monday and let you know what I have decided. Thanks again. Debbie :))My 2 chins LOL

Water aerobics sounds like they'd be easy on the knees to me. I've never tried them, but I'll bet our resident aqua-nazi knows a thing or two about them! Oh, Rooooooniiiiii!

I hope you have a great weekend too, Debbie!

Having done water aerobics quite a bit, I can tell you that it IS really easy on the knees...but is also a phenomenal cardio workout, and even better than weight-training, due to the resistance of the water!

Word to the wise: take it really easy the first few times! Even when you're having a blast and not feeling too much 'pain', I guarantee you'll feel the muscle-work a day or two afterward if you're overdoing! I found out the hard way!LOL

Good luck in finding something you really like to do (I highly recommend water aerobics!!),

Hugs,

Roni :)

Hi Debbie! Sorry I'm late getting in here. When you're retired, your life isn't your own! I'm Pam from Arkansas and I'm 54 and believe me I understand the empty nest with the eating out and all that. Did we actually used to move around some? LOL Well, I've been working at losing 100 pounds for 3 years and keep back sliding when I get sick or something catastrophic happens, so I'm starting in yet AGAIN! I've managed to keep half of it off so far, but it's really a struggle at our age. As for me, I love the South Beach diet. It makes lots of sense to me. I've found the only way I can lose weight is low carbing. It's when I try to add back the bread and stuff that I get into trouble. Whatever you try, just stay committed as much as possible and don't forget to drink water and get in some kind of exercise every day. I have a pool, so the water exercises really help me a lot. Anyway, good luck and hope you come around lots and lots. Pam
