Whew! What a night! Power went on and off several times, but as you can see, it's back now. There are pieces of trees all over our yard and whole trees in some yards surrounding us, but we're safe - PTL!

We did go down to the basement for a while, but we spent the night in our own beds. Dan and I stayed up until about 2:00, so we'd be ready to grab the kids and run back downstairs if things got wild. I slept half-dressed with the rest of my clothes laid out like a fireman, so I could jump up and into my jeans in one action...luckily that didn't become necessary.

The wind is still whipping around and there are lots of sirens going off this morning. I suppose with this wind, we're still in danger of losing power, so if I disappear, start chanting, okay? I'll start rigging up a running wheel on the side of the puter...the tricky part is going to be catching the squirrels to run in it.

I'm pooped but really grateful!

Glad to hear you're all ok! How did the girls react to it? Scared? Excited? You all don't have too many hurricanes up that way, do you? I thought they usually hit around the southern coast line.

CK! So glad to see you this morning!! Slept through it! I was watching TV when she really hit and the sound of the wind blowing, trees scraping against the house put me to sleep. I did wake up long enough to go potty, bruce had the wet/dry vac going, he said this morning it didn't flood as bad as he had thought.

So glad you all are safe!

We get the remnants of a lot of hurricanes - bad storms and winds, but they usually aren't aimed straight at us like this one was. The last really bad one was about four years ago. Completely flooded a town about 10 minutes from us.

The girls didn't seem too scared - mainly excited. Jolie, being an 11 year old, is disappointed that we didn't see more flooding or a longer power failure. I think she wanted to live in the basement for a few days. LOL

Glad you're safe too! I think the reason I couldn't sleep was the trees. We have really big trees around our house, and when we moved in, my ever-helpful dad just had to point out that one of them was sure to come down in a storm some day. Now, whenever the wind is roaring through the trees - and it was roaring to beat the band last night - I listen for the sound of the big crack and crash. Oy, my nerves!

Our flooding hasn't been too bad yet, but it's still seeping in. I guess time will tell. We have about 1/2 inch waiting for us in the basement right now. (Not even enough for a good game of Marco Polo, but plenty enough to really tick off the cats. LOL)

I can usually tell how bad the flood is, if all the cats are upstairs then I know! There is only a small portion of my back yard that is NOT covered by trees, so I can really understand being nervous when the wind whips up. We have really old trees in our yard, guess that is too be expected when the city you live in was at one time a lumber town! I just said said my prayers to the Lord, put our lives, property, home and pets in HIS hands and I knew we would be OK! On my way home from WW on Wednesday night, I saw a rainbow! I knew then we'd be OK!

Cain't type and run at the same time! (Actually, after last night, I think the squirrels may be grateful for a chance to get out of the trees!)

LOL...Now how did I know you were going to say that?! Well, there's always Dan!

The only hurricane I was ever in was in Houston. We had those huge pine trees down there that are all trunk with a little bit of bushy limbs waaaaaaay up there at the top. Well, being an Iowa farm girl and the survivor of many a tornado, I wasn't too impressed with that storm, so I was out watching those trees fanning back in forth in the wind. I had more than one neighbor sticking his head out, yelling at me to get back inside! LOL One actually did come down across our street and it was a couple of days before they were able to get it all cut up and hauled away. It was pretty exciting!

ROFL Wouldn't we have fun together in a storm! We'd both be out in the middle of it watching the wind blow everything away! LOL
