HI, My name is Heather & I am new to this board, I am looking for someone to chat with or e-mail daily for support with changing my life and getting fit, eating right. I would like to find someone who is in the same boat as me...I had been very thin till I hit my 20s, I was very ill for a long time, put on weight and I have never had to diet and I had never worked out before. I have tried to go it on my own, but it hasn't worked out very well. I need to drop about 30-50 pounds. I would like to find someone who wants to get into a real life change and work out, I want to go to a gym at lest a few times a week. I am looking for a friend that we can support each other in this. I have great support in my life, my boyfriend who I live with is a personal trainer! but I would like a real "dieting buddy" someone who knows how I feel and we can help each other.

Welcome to our wonderful support system, Heather! I think you've found exactly what you say you need, so I hope to see you around a lot and get to know you better!

I was also very thin as a teenager/young adult...and have had a struggle with weight ever since. It's really tough when you're used to eating whatever you want and not exercising, but you can get focused and do what needs to be done! I would suggest you start an exercise program that includes resistance training, so that you can start to rev up that metabolism again (your BF should be a GREAT resource...OMG, if only my husband were a personal trainer!! You lucky girl!!).

I hope you jump in anywhere/everywhere...I'm sure we will all be good for each other!! have a happy day,

Roni (35, mom of 10yo DD, Alberta...working hard to lose 40 pounds)

Hey, Allie? I'm just going to throw my 2 cents in here (not stepping on your toes or wanting to offend): weight training is the BEST thing you can do when you're trying to lose fat, because it revs up metabolism, and builds lean muscle that uses FAT stores as fuel. It is very unlikely that a woman will 'bulk', because to do that you need to be a rare genetic breed, but toning the muscle under fat layers will give a firmer look. AND muscle weighs more than fat for the volume (so 140 pound leanperson may be a size 6, while a 140 pound fat person may be a 16).

And weight training helps bones be strong (any not-too-heavy

Allie, I agree with Roni. A combination of cardio and resistance training is the best thing you can do. Weight training will not bulk you up. Women's bodies are not designed that way. And muscle burns more calories even at rest! Don't be afraid to hit those weights. You will only benefit from it! I promise! ;-)

I'm so sorry to hear that the board format isn't what you want, Heather, because there is a world of support and accountabiltiy here. We are all trying to exercise, eat healthy, drink our water...and keep each other afloat in the process. It's quite an amazing feeling to be so encouraged and never judged. I would love to be your email buddy, on-on-one, but I never seem to get to my emails!LOL

I hope you find what you need...go after your goals whether you find that someone or not!! Best of luck in reaching your goals,

Hugs,

I too am sorry that the board isn't what you're looking for, but I really hope you find the support you want.
