Hello! I'm 45, mother of two teenage boys & struggling with weight (again?). Seems to be a recurring theme with me, as I have never been thin. However, I have been 40 lbs. lighter than my current weight! But now I am probably going through peri-menopause & it seems more difficult than ever. I have lost my waistline. I don't have any unusual eating habits or disorders, but I am a teacher, and when I'm home during the summer I find myself wanting to snack all day! I hate to give up my summer, but will be glad to get back into a routine. I have found that simply increasing my exercise (although a healthy thing to do), doesn't take the pounds off anymore. And with heart disease in my family, I have got to take some weight off. I'm not getting any younger. I would love to lose 20 lbs, but I can't seem to even lose 10 - LA Weight Loss did not work for me and I followed it exactly.
Any suggestions & support would be greatly appreciated as I start this next school year. I have a wedding to attend in November - maybe that can be a date to aim toward? I have looked over a few other boards & this one seems to be very supportive & friendly. I wasn't crazy about the board where the 20 yr. old said "I need to lose 5 lbs". ha - I would love to lose 5 lbs, and can be supportive of someone with that goal, but I'm not sure that girl & I would have much in common. Is this the place for me?
Thanks, SS

Welcome SS! I'm a relative newbie on the board but am also a teacher getting ready to head back to school and, like you, anxious to get back into a routine.
This board has kept me accountable, reporting my weight weekly (aargh - lol), and giving me a kick in the seat of the pants when I went into pity party mode.
For me, I find keeping a food journal (as a diabetic, it also serves as my blood glucose record) to be one of the most helpful tasks. Even though I am single and live alone, the idea of writing down everything that goes into my mouth often makes me think before I eat something.
As far as exercise, perhaps you need to change the type of exercise you are accustomed to. I know our bodies can get in a "rut" and we need to kick it up a notch by adding strength building exercises or stretching exercises.
I know some of the others who have been here longer than I will come along soon and give you some ideas. But I wanted to welcome you to our little family of LOSERS!
Sue
Thank you, and it appears that "happy birthday" is in order!
Hi, SS!
I'm glad you posted.

Good morning SS and welcome. My name is Sandy and I'm 53 years old, have had heart surgery and am in perimenopause. I started going to a trainer last September as well as follow a nutrition program I took a few years after my heart surgery and work out at home and I've lost 50lbs. It's been going off slow and I hit a plateau for six weeks but I have never given up. I feel great and have so much energy. I wished I'd done this years ago.
Not only the comments I get but knowing I can now wear my hubby's size 32 pants and am only a few pounds behind my daughter have been some reasons why I don't give up but the most important
This is a great palce for you! Welcome to the board. We all have the same pretty much the same goal to lose weight and/or be more healthy. This board if a great resources of support if you need it. Looking forward to getting to know you!
