Hi,
I was wondering if I could join your board? I go for a few days eating right and exercising and then I kind of "forget" and slip back into my usual (bad) habits. The support you give each other here seems like such a great "reminder" of our priorities.
My quick stats: I'm 40, married, no kids but have been trying (what should be a big motivator in losing weight,) would like to lose at least 30 lbs (to go from size 14 to 8,) and I work too much and watch too much tv.
The 90/10 Plan has worked for me in the past so I'll use it as a template. I see that some of you are posting your food/calorie journals - that's a great idea!
You seems like a very nice, supportive bunch and I would love to have a base camp that I can check in with to keep me from straying down the Ben and Jerry's aisle.
Best wishes to you all and have a great Sunday!
~Cindy

A big, warm welcome to you, Cindy! I'm glad you found us, and OF COURSE you can join (the more the merrier, for sure)!!
What is the 90/10 plan? I have lost about 25 pounds since the end of Nov. strictly by exercising more and eating normal-sized portions. I have another 25-30 to lose before i start to feel really good, and then I'll see where I stand at that point.
You are so right about having buddies pushing/pulling each other along, increasing accountability and being great at "reminding" and "advising". Jump right in anywhere you feel comofortable and make yourself at home.
I look forward to sharing our successes together, hugs,

Hi Roni & Karen,
Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm inspired by the progress you've made!
Well, I'm off to a slow start; I had a bunch of chips and salsa today (I live in Texas and restaurants provide bottomless baskets of tortilla chips...) but I know I'm going to do this! The concept of the 90/10 Plan is that 90% of your calories come from low-fat, balanced meals (protein, whole grains, fruit, & vegetables) and 10% is "fun" food, 250 calories worth of whatever you want. There's a book written by Joy Bauer and she provides sample plans based on # of calories per day you want to stay within, with how many calories for each meal plus 2 snacks. To me, it seems like how I should be eating - like you, Roni, eating normal sized portions. Of course, exercise needs to be a part of it, too. I try to save my 250 cal. fun food for after dinner. It gives me something to look forward to and then it might turn out I don't want it after being good all day.
I look forward to talking to you more! Have a great evening!
~Cindy

Hi Lala!
I'm in Austin. I know, it's so much easier when you have someone to work out with. DH doesn't like the gym; I wish he did. So, we'll have to motivate each other here! I'm having a hard time getting started. I've fallen into bad habits and they're easy and comfortable. I need to break the cycle.
What exercise do you like?
~Cindy
Hi Karen,
I don't mind questions at all! I think the book helps you figure out how many calories. I came across the plan/book by doing a search on the internet for figuring how many calories I should intake. I think they take into consideration your height, weight, lifestyle, and how much you want to lose. Her book has, I think, 1200, 1400, and 1600. I think her cookbook also has for 1800. 1600 isn't too bad if you eat filling, high fiber things like beans. I don't do well if I feel hungry, shaky, and irritable.
I'm having a tough time getting started but I know I'll get going.
How are you doing?
~Cindy
