Hi,

I was wondering if I could join your board? I go for a few days eating right and exercising and then I kind of "forget" and slip back into my usual (bad) habits. The support you give each other here seems like such a great "reminder" of our priorities.

My quick stats: I'm 40, married, no kids but have been trying (what should be a big motivator in losing weight,) would like to lose at least 30 lbs (to go from size 14 to 8,) and I work too much and watch too much tv.

The 90/10 Plan has worked for me in the past so I'll use it as a template. I see that some of you are posting your food/calorie journals - that's a great idea!

You seems like a very nice, supportive bunch and I would love to have a base camp that I can check in with to keep me from straying down the Ben and Jerry's aisle.

Best wishes to you all and have a great Sunday!

My plan is to use the 90/10 plan as a guideline. It's counting calories and keeping a log. 90% of calories are all good stuff and 10% (about 250 cals) is whatever you want. I try to save the "fun" food for later in the day so I have something to look forward to, so if someone brings donuts to work in the morning, I can pass on them with the knowledge that I can have a little bit bigger dinner later, or a favorite treat. And sometimes I get to the end of the day and I think, gosh, I've done so well, why blow it with my "fun" food? It makes me think more about "budgeting" my calories. And, of course, exercise. I actually like the treadmill. Or just walking. The hardest part for me right now is simply getting started. I've developed very bad habits and am into my routine where I just don't police myself. Do you have a treadmill at home or do you use one at the gym?

Enjoy your visit with your daughter!

Hi and welcome to the board. My name is Rochelle, I'm from Perth, Australia. So I'm the only one from down under here.

Hi Lala!

Congratulations on your 2 lb loss! That's great!

I know what you mean about motiviation! I want to be healthy, feel good, look good, I want to have a baby, I'm approaching middle age - you'd think these would all be strong motivators, so what the hec? I am feeling motivated today, though!

I never heard of sparkpeople. I'll have to check it out. For counting calories, I started out by using a lot of the recipes and meal plans in the first 90/10 book. That just made it easier, which is one of things that attracted me to the plan. She breaks it down for you as to how many cals you have for each meal and snack. So I also went on line and found recipes that included calories. Then I keep a small spiral notebook in my purse and write down what I have and the cals. I don't know if this is going to work/help, but I used index cards in a recipe/index card box. I made tabs so I have 5 sections: breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack, fun food. I figured out a few different meals for each category and put them on an index card along with the calorie amount. That way I can mix and match. We'll see if it's doable.

Have you seen anyone about your back? A chiropractor maybe?

I've never tried South Beach. It scares me! Congrats on your success with it!

I'm not a whole lot taller than you, just barely 5'3". I know what you mean about being shocked about seeing yourself in photos but I think we shouldn't be so hard on ourselves! Sure, feeling good about how we look is nice, but there's so much more to who we are.

Feel good, take care of your back, and have a great Sunday!

Hi,

Glad you're doing ok and that your plan is working! I'm ok, mostly I've been sticking to plan but weekends are a challenge and I need to get exercise. I lost 5 lbs nearly right away but haven't lost anything in over a week now so I need to step it up. It'll happen! I'm tired of being tired from carrying around too much weight.

What have you been doing that's working for you, if you don't mind my asking?

Happy Sunday,
Cindy
