New to the Board - need some motivating!

Greetings! A few years ago, I successfully dropped forty pounds. Since then, I have also successfully put that weight (and then some) back on. D'oh! I have been trying for the past three years to take the weight back off and not only have I not been able to do it, but I've gained weight. This stops NOW! I have joined the YMCA and have got a good workout routine going and, to my surprise, I really enjoy it. This is my first time belonging to a gym and I feel like the Y is a "safe space" and I like zoning out and reading a magazine while getting fit. I feel like I have a good grip on what I should be eating and I've been diligently keeping a food journal for the past week (I started it when I joined the Y). My problem is, I get weak. Who doesn't, right? I get weak and think, "I can have one piece of pizza...." then I eat the whole pizza, or bag of chips, or pint of ice cream. I need help to stay on track and use the tools I have available to be healthy! Can you guys help me out?!?!? Looking forward to everyone's advice and support... (of course, I'll be happy to lend support, as well)

Thanks for the advice! I go by Jen or Jennifer - just not Jenny. :) I'm not sure what is triggering the overeating. I would be willing to bet that it is mostly emotional. I'm hoping the journaling will help as well as finding a good support group! I've also just started looking into "MyPlate" on livestrong.com, which someone else on the board suggested. I like that because it counts the calories. If I do get craves, I'll try something high in protein or fiber - thanks for the tip!

Hi Jen!

I am new to this board also, but I can tell you this , so far it's a great group of gals! It sounds like you have started a great game plan! With the support of great friends, or Buddies, I have a feeling you will do even better!

Have a great day!

Ugh! That does sound familiar! I used to be an "after work" snacker. Now I go to the gym instead (it's right on my way home from work - no excuses!) My problem is on the weekends. It's like a free for all! If you feel like late night snacking, just imagine gluing those potato chips right to your hips, because that's where they're going! Sometimes, if I have cravings, I think, "am I really hungry, or am I just bored?" Sometimes that works, sometimes I cave anyway, but it's a start.

Hi, welcome to the board! I've found a lot of support here and I'm sure you will, too! I understand about doing really well and then caving. It feels like an all or nothing deal. Either I'm totally on track or I way overdo it. Let's find the healthy compromise together! Glad you're here! ~Cindy
