GOOD MONDAY MORNING, BUDDIES!

Howdy doody, Buddies!

I hope you had a good weekend.  With the exception of the football game, mine was lovely.  This week is going to be nuts though.  The ghost walk is this weekend, so I have much-much-much to do!  My students are turning in their midterms this week, so I'll be grading my brains out whenever I'm not ghost walking.

How is your week shaping up?  Are you stocked up with healthy foods to make it easier to stay on plan?  I've got my grocery situation pretty much under control.  I've just got to remember to drink plenty of water and not rely on coffee and sugar to get me through.

Have a marvy Monday and a wonderful week!

((((HUGS)))) - Karen

Things are pretty much back to normal here, got the last of the travel related stuff finished. Now need to get some cool weather clothes out.

Foodwise, I cooked a bunch of frozen chicken breasts on Sunday, made chicken noodle soup for supper. Saved several pieces for my lunches. This week I'm working on lunch fixings - I get busy in the A.M. and wind up grabbing whatever I can find. So, I steamed a big bowl of brown rice, will make extra veggies with each dinner, then mix the veggies and some of that chicken, add some lite soy sauce & I'll be a happy camper. Got to taste way better than the frozen teriyaki dinner I tried. Yech - the noodles were like greasy rubber. How's that for a visual - LOL.

Howdy Karen and buddies!

I'm back. I need to get back on the wagon big time! I think I'm up about 3-4 pounds and I don't want it to get out of hand. I'll try to get back down to my norm of around 170, and then of course if I could lose some more, that'd be awesome!

I've decided though that the past few times I did this I got so focused on the number on the scale (which is usually motivation for me but not recently). I would diet until I got back to 170 where I've been very content and then I'd just stop and decide to try to maintain for a while. Maintaining usually only lasts about a month or so and then I gain again! So this time, instead of watching the scale, I'm gonna try to go without. I'm generally an all or nothing kinda gal, so hopefully I can really do this!!

I've been thinking that maybe in a few weeks or so I'll peek, see where I'm at, and then keep going. I just don't want to get discouraged before I begin and I don't want to get content when I get into the 160s.

Ok, as for food, I'm all stocked up and ready to get healthier! Need to get back to grilling while we still can!! And lots of veg and salad! YUM!! Oh and exercising again! I totally let that stop, too!

I'm withya Gretal...I need to get back on track myself.

Problem is that work has been so busy and crazy, and money is pretty tight and its so hard to diet with not alot of money. Our jogging in the morning has pretty much stopped (it never really started). I knew it wouldn't work. But Bill was persistent so I did get up with him the first morning, to atleast show my support in the idea. I tried pushing him but its not working so Im giving up.

Im gonna have to change my routine around a bit since it's getting dark earlier now. So I think I will ride the bus til the end and then walk home. This way I get about 25minutes of cardio in and street lights lol. The way I did come home is not well lit and Im not too comfortable with that.

I also need to change my diet routine...I need to me financially savy...right now im doing oatmeal in the morning and ramen for lunch. This is pretty cheap so Im good there. I'd like to enhance the meals a little thought. Lately I've been mixing yogurt with my oatmeal if I eat a late breakfast and just skip my snack. And then eat my fruit cup or veggies with my ramen and skip my afternoon snack. This I think will be okay as long as it dosent get expensive.

Alright I need to get to work.....talk to you girls later!

Oh man, running in the morning is ambitious! I used to do twice a day runs when prepping for the marathon but I couldn't motivate myself for that anymore - lol!

I feel ya with the money being tight! We are definitely feeling that right now. I haven't been able to find work, so I've been temping in the mean time. It gives a bit of money and gets me out of the house (which was very much needed) but it's going to be a serious problem when all my student loans start coming due!

I've got my entire work week (not including dinner) to about $18, which I think is pretty reasonable for ten meals. Here's what I have: breakfast is instant oatmeal - splurged this week and bought a big box from Sam's of the easy prep/flavored ones. Lunch and snacks is: a hot dog and bun, two pieces of fruit (whichever is on sale/cheapest), a bag of chips, and a cheese stick. I drink water or bring tea with me. Also, this adds up to about 900 calories, which I also think is decent for so much food. Then for dinners, I try to stay around 500 calories and within $6-7 for me and Todd.

Yea, were trying to get on a budget too for dinners. Were going to start doing like cooking ahead. Tonight were having left over lasagna. I figure if I can make it on a saturday or sunday night and freeze the rest into reasonable portions we have dinner for 2 or 3 more nights. This last one I made was pretty big so I only was able to get 2 extra dinners. But if we make a salad maybe small piece of bread I can definitely stretch it even more.

Mmm! Sounds good! I love lasagna - I could definitely eat that every day!!

Todd and I have tried the making big meals to eat several times thing and it just doesn't work for us. I wish it did - sure fire way to save money!! We have two major problems with it though: 1) I get bored with most foods after eating them twice. So I can only make it for two dinners or it will spoil. (Which is odd, because I eat the same lunch EVERY day for months on end!!) And 2) the more I make, the more we eat!! I say I'll package them up right away, but knowing it's there, we just end up with bigger portions!

I really think half the battle with saving money for dinner is just buying in bulk whenever meat is on sale and putting them in portions in the freezer. Sure, I end up sometimes with 5 pounds of pork tenderloin but no chicken breast at times, but generally we have everything on hand =)

Try making your own instant oatmeal by putting 1/2 of the dry oatmeal in a blender & whirling to a fine powder. When I was working I did a week's worth this way, put in small zipper bags to go. You can add dried fruit to the packet and protein whey powder (try chocolate flavored). Add boiling water and you're ready to eat. BTW - this can be mixed with a container of yogurt if you are stuck with no boiling water. It's great to carry when traveling, as most hotels have a microwave. Many a late night snack has been chocolate oatmeal with peanuts.

Oh yea Gretal we have the same problem...well I mean me...I do get bored with foods...in fact im starting to have trouble eating the ramen because ive eaten it for several months now...

And you're right about buying in bulk on sales...problem for us is room. OUr kitchen is so small and so is our fridge...so its hard to buy alot at one time.

And our other problem is we love to eat out. We come home, after a hard day at work which has been alot lately and we jsut dont feel like cooking. Problem is, is we actually do have stuff that we can just through in and forget about it til its ready but its even better if we don't have to even worry about it.

I think it just comes down to being disciplined and careful with spending.

Thanks. I usually always make the steel cut oats for breakfast because I like the texture a lot. However, I noticed my oatmeal was getting more and more out of hand. I spice it up myself and it started with just fruit. Then butter got added, then maple syrup, then chocolate chips! Oy! It got so out of control that I decided to buy the prepared kind. I'm not tempted to add things to it, so it stays at a constant calorie count! I guess convenience like that works for me =)
