Good Morning!

I can't believe it's November already. This year sure has gone by fast, at least for me. Thanksgiving is just around the corner and as I was thinking about it this morning, I was reminded of how difficult the holidays used to be for me. For some of you they still are and I would like all of us to be pro-active. Thanksgiving doesn't have to be an event we dread or go away from feeling like we failed or messed up.

Please tell us what your plans for Thanksgiving are, how and why (if at all) it might be difficult for you, and what you can do to make it a positive experience. Think about different ways you can help yourself or others can help you - be creative.

Love & hugs, Kristina

Kristina:

You are right the Holidays can be tough because of all the sweets and wanting to indulge in them and then feeling like you failed and so forth.

My husband and I have decided to take advantage of me being off for 4 days and 'redoing' our bedroom. A few months back we re-painted the guest bedroom, took out the carpet, and acid washed the concrete floor and then covered it with 4 layers of polyuretheane. It looks really cool and we want to do our bedroom and then his office next. We have tile in the kitchen and the bathrooms, hardwood floor in the living room and hallway, and the bedrooms/office have carpet. The carpet is 7 years old and the dogs have peed on it and thrown up on it (sorry to be so graphic) and I can't stand it anymore. We have always cleaned it really good and still do, but I just don't like carpet anymore. So we are doing the 'exposed concrete floor' thing which I love. Anyway, this year there are no single 'orphan' friends we need to invite over so we are working on our house instead. Therefore food won't even be an issue.

Oh goodness - I used to love and hate the holidays at the same time - so much fun but so disastrous with all the food in my Italian family (my family now has grown as Rob has 5 sisters and 2 brothers - so imagine the food there!).

Well, here in Scotland we don't celebrate this but I can tell you what I will be doing. I will be looking back on the past years of my life cos I will turn 25 on the 27th. My own wee celebration.

Hi all!

I'll be here in NYC having a takeout dinner from Zabar's (amazing gourmet shop) with Sister and Dad, who is flying into town to see his girls.

I'm thankful that I have family and friends who are still in my life, even after all we've been through.

I'm making my own life better by working with my new therapist, who is an ED specialist who I think is going to help a lot.

I'm making the lives of others better by being a better listener and an active help in my friends' and co-workers' lives and trying to take a backseat every now and then. I would like to put the days of "me, me, me" behind.

I would also like to enjoy Thanksgiving by maybe participating in the "Turkey Trot," which is a short run in Central Park--and a popular event.

Those are the plans for now...

I wish I could say I hadn't thought about it yet, but I have. We are going to Nashville the weekend before and when we get back, I am thrown right into that holiday. I am just going to give it to God and hopefully I go through with it. I am going to concentrate on my family and being with them, celebrate because my last day of work will be on the 26th (our wedding anniversery) and that I will be starting a new life. I am not sure what the plans are for sure, but I do know that it will be busy and full of food!!

Love, Sharon
