*~*~Your Thoughts Create Your Future~*~*

Here’s a little challenge for you that will benefit you in the long run. Our minds are incredibly powerful. It is true that your thoughts create your future and as people with Eds we have incredibly negative minds. To some degree we are not even aware of all the negative thoughts floating around in our heads. Somehow, sometime these thoughts got into your  head and eventually you believed them. Now you can do the same with positive thought. You need to affirm the positive, whether you believe it or not.

For those of you who are believers in Christ, even the bible says that, ‘as a man thinketh, that he is…’ (Proverbs 23:7). But whether you are a believer or not, what you think will shape your future and your actions.

The next time you look in the mirror and think that you are fat, I want you to say in your mind or out loud, ‘I have a beautiful body’. Again, it doesn’t matter if you believe it or not because if you do this on a continual basis, you eventually WILL believe it. You can start with one positive affirmation or chose several. Then try to be aware of your thoughts throughout the day and keep repeating these positive affirmations. This will not be easy for some of you depending on where you are in your recovery. It’s natural for us to let our minds wander and then the negative tapes start playing because that’s what we’re used to at this point. Just like you have to walk to a tape player and physically turn off a tape you don’t like, you have to turn off the negative tape that plays in your head. Unfortunately it’s not as easy as pushing a button, but it can be accomplished with a little effort on your part.

Life is good and you CAN be happy and free of ED. You just have to believe it and keep fighting (and praying if you believe in God). I know for me, giving it to God was one big step. Without Him I would not have stopped purging.

That's right sister! Anything other than positivity in the mirror is just indulging in self-abuse. It is so pointless and hindering and ultimately it isn't really about weight any way, but other things conveniently hidden by the ED.

I promise myself that I will do this exercise and remind myself to love what I see the next time I see my own reflection.

PS- I hate the ED!!!!! Hate it. And I will start trying harder to banish it.
