hi, i haven't posted here in a few months, but i've got a question. if i finally get fully recovered, will my metabolism ever go back up to normal? or at least close? thanks

Hi Konstanza,
I sometimes wonder about that, too. There are times I get discouraged because my body is not back to FULL health yet and I had other health issues last year besides the ED. I have a really, really good nutritionist who has helped me tremenduously and according to him, your body can get back to complete and total health through nutrition and supplements. The thing is that it takes a while. Depending on how long you have had your ED and how badly you 'abused' your body (I hope you know how I mean that), it will take a while to heal as well. We didn't get here overnight so we won't be fully recovered overnight. So anyway, there are days I totally believe that you can be completely healed and then I have days like today when I am not feeling so great and I start to doubt. But I think we have to keep believing, keep affirming that you believe you will be healed, and you will continue to get better.
Thanks for asking this message - I needed to think about that today. Like I said, when I don't feel so good physically my negative mind wants to take over. I have stopped binging, purging and starving myself, but I still have to work on my thoughts. Aside from giving this ED to God (or a higher power if you are not a believer), it helps to come up with a few key positive affirmations and repeat them over and over every day. Be aware of your thoughts because your thoughts create your future.

Answer to your question...........yes, your metabolism will return to normal, just like Kristina said. Also like she said it will take some time for your body to heal and get back to normal.
It took me 2 yrs to put on 20 lbs, which I badly needed. I was totally surprized at how much I could eat and it didn't do anything. Right now it is very hard for me to eat enough so I don't lose. My stomach just will not take a full meal or I feel sick. So I sortta eat all day long in small portions, so I get all the nutrition I need.
I doctor gave me the okay to work out about a yr into my recovery. So I lift weights and walk alot. No aerobics or I will lose. I still could stand a few more lbs., but I am having trouble getting them on. I think just like an alcholic, my ED will always be with me. But I am slowly getting to trust food in that it will NOT make me fat. My mother was very overweight while I was growing up and I know that I swore to myslef that I would never get like that. I would rather be alittle under than overweigh.
My doctor is happy with my progress and is not pushing me to gain more weight althou he did tell me I could use a few more lbs. I am in good health (Thank GOD) and I pray I stay that way.
Just alittle about me...................
