hair loss

Hello everyone, I'm 18 and currently recovering bulimia, and trying to do it on my own. Since deciding to stop i've been very good an faithful to my commitment. But since recovering, and right before deciding to stop i've lost a ton of hair. It just keeps falling out no matter what i do, and i'm eating healthy and taking my vitamins everyday. Its now to the point that its so thin i'm beging to show bald spots! I'm very careful about washing/brushing it, and i dont style it anymore for fear of pulling more out. I cleaned my carpet yesterday, and I collect a huge handfull of hair. Please help me! This is absolutely horrible :( I'm so embarrased and ashamed of it. If anyone has experienced anything similar and/or has any helpful advice i would greatly appreciate it. I know this is a common side-affect, but how long after recovery does the hair loss continue and is there anything you can do about it? Thank you so much for your help.

Hi wave_angel,
Welcome to the board. I am glad you found us.
I wish I had a definite answer to your question, but it's really hard to say how long it will take. I would think it depends somewhat on how much damage you did to your body and for how long. Also, how long have you been abstaining from bulimia and are you sure you are not only getting enough food, but the right nutrients.
One thing I know can help with hairloss (it helped me) is taking Omega 3 fatty acids. You can buy them in capsule form. It also has many other health benefits which you can read about here: http://www.mercola.com/article/omega3.htm. Otherwise I would say go see a doctor and have some blood tests done just to see if something is out of balance. You may think you are getting the right vitamins and nutrients, but with all the information out there it can get pretty confusing to figure out what our bodies really need.
I hope this helps and please post any time you need to or just want to chat to others who can relate to what you are going through.
Love & hugs, Kristina

If you can buy a juicing machine, start juicin gfruits and vegs so that your body can more quickly absorb the nutrients. But the Biotin will really help. It may help to go the health food store and buy special shampoos. Doing so will give you psychological control over the situation. You can also buy a shampoo ar Rite Aid called Thicker Fuller Hair.
It comes in a green bottle and only cost $5. This problem may last up to 6 months. Try not to stress, stress makes it worse. Mega-B vitamins can ease your stress.
I was worried too, when i had this problem. It did get better.
