I just have a question that I hope someone may be able to answer for me. I have a friend who I found out has started taking laxatives. She takes them before every meal. I have read up on it on the internet and found that this is very unhealthy. All the websites I have found say that it will not help you to lose weight, but my friend is losing weight using them. She is not restricting what she is eating much, she just using the laxatives. Has anyone had this problem?

Hi - I used laxatives when I was active in my ED. I used to take an overdose right after a binge and no, it's not healthy. Whether you take a normal dose or an overdose, laxatives are tough on your body. With continued/daily use your body will eventually become used to them and not be able to have a bowel movement on its own. That's not the only problem laxatives can cause down the road.

hey hot mama:

Laxitive abuse is a form of bulimia which is as dangerous and damaging as throwing up. Ive been battling with bulmia since junior year of high school, but when i told my family and close friends that i used laxitives, they didnt take it seriously. laxitives damage you from the inside out, i have intestinal problems thanks to abusing laxitives, and im very suseptible to ulsers. Take ur friend's problem seriously, laxitive dependency is very painful both physical and emotionally. and it something you deal with for the rest of ur life. I wish her the best of strength and luck
