My ob has me on wellbutrin for female problems. She doesn't know about my ed. Has anyone else ever taken wellbutrin? if so, did you have any side effects? how did it affect your ed? My ob said that it would probably curb my appetite, but that it takes about 6 weeks before you see any change.

i took wellbutrin last summer for a short time to help with my bipolar symptoms. the doc did mention that it can affect one's appetite--lessen it. i did notice that almost right away which was good as i was in a binging period (i have an ED as well as bipolar), however, it caused me to have manic feelings and it made me very nauseous so we discontinued using it. i've know people who've done very well taking wellbutrin. i hope it works well for you.

take care and be well,

kathy

p.s. a good website to check is www.pdrhealth.com it has lots of info on many Rx drugs. if you'd like to find out more about it's affects, post on the bipolar disorder board...you'll find many ppl there who've taken it and can give you some info.

You may want to also check out the Anti-Depressant Medications Board... there's lots of information there on many different kinds of anti-depressants. http://messageboards.ivillage.com/n/main.asp?webtag=iv-bhpaxil&nav=start

You really should tell your doctor about your ED. My doc was going to prescribe Wellbutrin, but when I told her I had ED she immediately switched to a different med. She said that Wellbutrin isn't good for people who have or have had an ED. I was glad I told her about my ED because I wouldn't want to take a med that would make it any worse than it already is. You should feel safe telling your doctor... they have to keep it confidential and maybe your doc could even refer to you to a therapist where you can get help.

I read your other post and understand that your doc has put you on these meds as a result of not having a period for 10 months. You know that's most likely related to your ED so you REALLY should tell your doc. She's treating you with medication and she should know why you have not had a period. You're not helping yourself by keeping that from her and the treatment she prescribes could be horribly wrong based on your ED.

I hope I didn't upset you, but PLEASE talk to your doctor and be upfront with her. I know that Wellbutrin isn't for people with ED, and this could really cause problems for you... and based on your other posts, you don't need any more problems, right?

(((HUGS)))

Take care...

I just stopped taking Wellbutrin after three months. I started out on a 300mg dosage of Wellbutrin XL and then went down to 150mg after the first 2 weeks. I have been really nauseous and have had horrible dizzy and shaking spells. My appetite barely decreased (I too have an ED), but I did continue to lose weight even though I started to eat a bit. The dizziness finally got to me beacuase it felt like I was having a mini-seizure...sometimes for hours at a time, so I stopped taking it. Hopefully it will work better for you.
