Hello everyone!

On June 11, 2004, I will be testifying in court against my insurance company (Calpers Blue Cross). I am a recovered anorexic, and throughout my recovery, which involved both therapy and nutritional counseling, my insurance provider refused to offer any coverage for the nutritional counseling. I believe that their refusal is in conflict with the parity law of California, which states that severe mental illnesses (such as anorexia nervosa) must be covered just as any other life-threatening disease, and provided with all the necessary means of recovery (such as nutritional counseling).

Does anyone know of any indivduals or groups who have challenged their insurance providers for coverage of nutritional counseling for the treatment of an eating disorder? Please let me know if you can offer any information, or if you would like to become involved in this case.

I truly appreciate your help. If we win this case, it will be a tremendous victory for both victims of eating disorders and their treatment providers, such as dietitians.

Thanks so much, and please pass this message on to anyone who might have any information that could help my case.

You can email me at afranzen@oxy.edu
