I'm missing ephedrine so much now that it's been taken off the market.. did it help anyone else not to binge? It made me full faster so even my huge bulimic stomache got full on a normal meal.. I really miss it, I dont think that I ever abused it, but it really helped me. I miss ephedrine!

Hi Meg,

I know it's hard getting off ephedrine and other diet drugs - I've been there - but in the long run it is much better for you. Our bodies shouldn't need ephedrine to function, suppress appetite, etc. Eventually you will learn to eat several small meals throughout the day

Love & hugs, Kristina

Hey Meg,

I had the briefest, smallest stint with diet pills one summer (I probably took no more than 20 pills in all over the whole summer), but it was enough for me to feel the effects. I also think it made some lasting damage to my body, especially my circulation. I began to lose circulation extremely easily when I started taking diet pills, especially in my arms and legs.

Anyway, while I can understand hating bingeing and wanting desperately to find something-- anything!-- that reduces or takes away that incurable urge, ephedra is not the way to do that. In my opinion, any amount of this drug is "abuse" to your body. They took it off the market for a reason!

However, I do think it's possible to get some of the positive effects of ephedra from other, healthier, more natural means. I have taken 5HTP and really like it. It doesn't make me feel wacked out like antidepressants did, but it does help my mood and helps with appetite. It also helps me sleep well and more restfully.

However, there's a lot more to good health and good eating than the right pills. In fact, the best antidote to bingeing is to stop restricting. If you're not fueling your body right, your brain and body go nuts and absolutely set you up to binge. There have been times when I couldn't imagine not wanting to eat something, not being hungry, not wanting to binge and purge. That's a big clue that there's some serious nutritional want going on in your body-- no matter your weight.

I hope you find safe, healthy, natural ways to help your mind and body. They're out there, but not always the easiest to find. You have my prayers.

I think that the reason they took it off the market is because it's a drug that increases blood pressure marketed to a population that's already prone to high blood pressure.. if they marketed it as an energy increasing drug and told you not to take it if you're overweight or prone to high blood pressure, there wouldn't be a problem.

Meg,

"..if they marketed it as an energy increasing drug and told you not to take it if you're overweight or prone to high blood pressure, there wouldn't be a problem."

I think you're kidding yourself here. Have you actually READ the reports on this stuff? It is awful, awful for you. I myself had a bad reaction to the drug at a normal weight and low blood pressure... and I was taking a teeny tiny amount over a couple of months. The links below are by no means the strongest information on ephedrine, but the second one leads to FDA releases on it and is pretty good. Please be glad you can't access ephedrine anymore... one less thing to deteriorate your already-compromised health.

"If you use the substance in a way for stimulation or for weight loss, you generally are taking dosages which exceed the dosages for nasal decongestion and you're taking it for a prolonged period of time, that's where you run into health problems. You've got a number of possibilities - the worst ones being stroke and heart attack."
