Am I in denial?

Lately my friends have been telling me that I'm anorexic.

I still eat, but lately anytime I do eat or I try to eat, especially when I'm eating in front of others or with others, I get nautious every single time and lose my appetite. And now, sometimes I lose it for a few days, not just a few hours.

I still dont' think this classifies me as anorexic since I eat, even though it is small amounts, but maybe I'm wrong. Are my friends right? Am I anorexic?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Steffy,

Often times when people see someone who doesn't eat much or who is really thin, they immediately assume that that person is anorexic. From what you describe, that may not necessarily be the case. There could be something physical going on. I would suggest going to see a doctor and trying to figure out why you feel nauseated when you eat. If nothing physical is wrong, then you might want to explore if there is an emotional issue that's causing it.

How do you feel about your body? Are you really thin but think you are fat? Do you feel nauseated from eating or do you have negative thoughts about eating that precede the nausea? Are you worried you will gain weight if you eat? Those are some questions you might ask yoursel. You can also go to our member website (link above) or to www.somethingfishy.org for more informtion on EDs. And of course check back in here any time you need to.

are you underweight? It sounds like your problem is psychological, but if you're not underweight you cant technically be anorexic.. but you could have an eating disorder.
