Goal Update!

ok guys! so far, so good! i haven't even had to use any of my evasive maneuvers (listed below, in my original post). the thought of having a b/p has flickered through my brain a few times, but hasn't been a strong urge. only one more day to go, and i'll have reached ALL my goals. i called my friend and we had an awesome talk, neither of us had any bad news at all! so it was a wonderfully positive conversation. AND she bought a copy of the book i'm using for therapy (Feeling Good by David Burns) so she can read it and have a better idea of the tactics i'm using to fight this eating disorder. i love her so much.

thanks Kristina for the encouragement. i hope everyone can find a bright moment today to enjoy.

Hemmy :)

original post:

my husband is going out of town on a business trip for a week, from this sunday to next saturday. being alone in the apartment when he's out of town usually triggers me to return to some of my eating disorder behaviors.

my goals:

1. avoid purging and cutting. my alternate activities include a knitting project i've just started (and a backup project ready in case i get bored with it), practicing my guitar, i've got several books i can read, plus i can do my thought-monitoring worksheets or just write in my anxiety log. i tend to have that purge "need" really quickly and i always feel trapped, like i'm locked in and have to do it...my plan for that feeling is get out of the apartment as soon as i feel it and walk somewhere (i can go to the apartment pool, or across the street to the park).

2. call my best friend and thank her for intervening in april and trying to help me with my eating problems.

3. eat dinner every night.

Hi Hemmy,

That's really awesome - thank you for the update and I am so excited for you. I have recommended the Feeling Good Handbook several times here, especially the exercise in chapter 4 or 5. I still go through it sometimes when my mind won't stop. Sometimes it just helps to get those auto thoughts, and then reality, down on paper.

You are doing great!!!

Love & hugs, Kristina
