I really need advice

I am going on vacation in a week from today with my fiance. I am currently in recovery for an eating disorder, but I haven't been totally sticking to it. :( I am supposed to be eating about 1500 calories per day, but I've only been eating 1200 calories per day. My fiance thinks I'm doing well with my recovery and I haven't told him otherwise because I don't want to disappoint him. Anyway, when I go on vacation with him, I will be eating in resturaunts and shops for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I'm going to eat healthy, but I know that my calorie intake will be around 1600-2000 per day, and I can't try to skimp out too much or else my fiance will think something is up. I'm concerned that I will gain weight. I've heard that when you consume a low calorie intake, and then start eating normally again, the body quickly begins to store those calories as fat. (Which is why people say very low calorie diets don't work because once you start eating normally again, you gain the weight right back and more). I'm so scared this is going to happen to me! Should I increase my calories to around 1300-1500 to prepare my body for the change? I really do want to recover, but I'm having a hard time and I'd like to do things slow. I am very much afraid of gaining weight. Do you think I will gain weight eating normally for a week while I'm in Florida, going from 1200 calories to about 1800 calories? Do you think it's best if I increase my calories to 1500 calories this week, and then going from 1500 to 1800-2000 calories won't be such a shock? I'm wondering what to do. I want to have a good time on vacation, but I'm just scared I'm going to gain weight. I'm sorry this post was so long, but I just really need advice. I'm so stressed out. Thanks for reading.

Hey Sweetie,

take a deeeeeeeeeeeeeeep breath and try to relax. One week of eating a little more, IF ou really will be eating more, is not going to make you put on tons of weight.

I would definitely start eating more on a daily basis because like you said yourself, low calorie diets don't work. You are really hurting yoursel more than doing any good. The longer you keep your calories low, the more your metabolism will slow down. Eat 5 to 6 small meals per day to keep your metabolism going and your blood sugar balanced, and try not to worry so much about how many calories you are consuming. I know that's not easy (I've been there), but you need to start somewhere. You could NOT count calorie for one meal per day. Then go to two meals per day and so on.

I am not sure who told you to eat 1500 calories per day, but I would be honest with who ever is trying to help you. That number still seems low, but you need to be honest if you want things to improve.

Love & hugs, Kristina
