I was just wondering if being on birth control pills may help you maintain a "healthy" weight, it seems like I just cant lose weight. Also, if you did get to the point were you should stop your period, would the pills maintain your period?

Hi Caitlin,

This is probably not what you want to hear, but if anything, the pill will make you gain weight. BCPs have estrogen in them and estrogen is a fat hormone. Of course it's not like that for everybody across the board.

However, the bigger picture here is that I believe have mentioned before that everybody else thinks you are too thin. If so, then the reason you can't loose any more weight is mostly likely due to the fact taht you don't have any more too loose and your body has gone into starvation. The more you cut back, the more you metabolism will slow down and the more damage you do, not to mention that it will be harder, and harder to "loose" whatever you think you need to loose.

As for the BCP starting your period if you are not having one right now on your own, yes, there is a possibility but not a guarantee. Again, what I would look at here is that at your age you should be having perdiods. If you are not, then there is something wrong physicallly (not enough fat/weigth I assume??). Taking the pill to "fix" it is just that, a temporary fix and it does not address the real problem.

I am sorry if you were expecting something different, but I need to be honest with you. It is important to work on healing from your ED. Once you do, everythinig else (weight, size, fat, periods, etc.) will fall into place. Taking care of your emotional needs is just as important as taking care of your physical needs. The two go hand in hand.
