I need advice!

I'm trying to recover from anorexia, and it's REALLY hard to get myself to actually eat more! I was eating around 1000-1100 calories per day and when I reached 103 lbs, I knew that I really needed to stop losing weight. My friends and family have commented on my weight loss and they are starting to question me about it. I don't want to lose anymore weight! But, I'm scared to death to eat more, because I've been anorexia for years and am really not used to eating more than 1100 calories per day. I upped my calorie intake to 1200-1350 per day, but some days I feel fat so I reduce it back to 1000-1100. Well, now I weight 101.5! It scares me, I don't want to lose anymore weight. :( I'm so nervous and feel very much out of control. I wish there was a therapist I could speak to, but I live in the middle of nowhere and the closest eating disorder specialist is 4.5 hours away. I've seen other regular therapists, but they don't seem to understand. I'm fighting this battle alone. When I saw that I weighed 101.5, I put my calorie intake to 1375, and then today, I'm eating 1400. It's scary! I want to be at 105lbs and no less, but no more either. How many calories should I be eating? The thought at eating 1500 calories freaks me out, but I know that I probably should be eating at least that, right? Please help me and give me some advice. Thanks!!

Hi kristymay_c,

I am glad you found this board and that you are reaching out for help. My recommendation would have been to see a therapist, but you already said that's not really an option. Have you tried any group meetings such as www.overeatersanonymous.org (there are anorexics in the meetings as well), www.eatingdisordersanonymous.org, or www.celebraterecovery.com? I am not sure where you live but since you indicated that it's 'in the middle of nowhere' I am not sure there will be any meetings in your area.

Another option is to get an online 12-step sponsor. You could work through the steps online with someone.

As for the amount of calories you should be eating, that's really hard to say. It depends on your metabolism, your level of exercise, etc. Are there any nutritionists in your area that you could work with?

Please don't take this the wrong way, it's not that I don't want to help. But this board is more for general support and a place to vent and cry and share. None of us are professionals and can't really give professional advice on caloric intake and such.

I do hope that you will find a way to work on your recovery. I also hope that you will continue to post here for support and encouragement.

Love & hugs, Kristina
