Damaged Metabolism

Hi I have a quick question that I HOPE I can find an answer to:

I ate under 1200 calories for a while before I knew how damaging it was to my body. Im now trying to eat more to regain some lost weight (but not too much) and Im scared that once I begin to eat more that I will gain too quickly.

Basically my question is:

Have I damaged my metabolism forever or once I begin eating more will it stablize and become normal?

Thank you for your time it is much appreciated

I agree with Kristina, when I haven't been getting enough calories, or have skipped eating and then catch up, I have a lot more energy and my thinking is much better, too.

This is true with breakfast -- even though I don't "feel" like having any, if I have something I consider easy, my staying power is better and I don't end up feeling "punk" in the middle of the afternoon.
