i have been a bulimic for about a year now. have tried the starving routine for 42 days and lost 30 lbs. after that I began to purge after eating. my doctor told me that I will pack on the pounds if I continue to purge after every meal. is this true? any advice and comments are appreciated.

Your doctor was probably talking about water weight gain.

Hi,

I am glad you found us. I am not sure what to tell you about your doctor's comment but if this is a doctor you trust then I would follow his or her advice. None of us are doctors here and we cannot give medical advice. The only thing I do know is that if you continue to purge, besides the possiblity of serious health problems, your metabolism will slow down tremenduously. The more it slows down the less food it will take for you to gain weight. Our bodies are incredible 'machines' that will adapt to any changes. The less food you give your body, the fuel it needs to run on, the more it slows down to compensate for less energy. Maybe that's what your doctor was referring to.

Are you currently in treatment for your ED? If not, have you considered getting help?

Love & hugs, Kristina
