I don't know if I can say that I'm Anorexic
but I went through a bad time in my life last
year and was very depressed. I was about 175lbs
at the time. I ate alot. The weight gain was due
to being pregnate. I had alot of things going on
and I was really depressed as I said. I just quit
eating for about a month. I lost all that extra
weight and then some. now I'm 105 to 110bls. I
am eating more now but when ever something bums
me out I still don't eat. The thought of food
makes my wanna get sick if I am mad, depressed,
ect.ect. My DH thinks I am anorexic I tell him
he is nuts. So my question anyway..... I have
been getting really bad leg cramps early in the
morning. DH thinks its becouse I have an eating
disorder. Does anyone know if this could be why I
am getting these awful leg cramps???

Hi citygrl22,

Welcome to the board. A lot of people turn to food due to emotioanal reasons or avoid food for emotional reasons. From what you have said it does sound like there is more to it than that for you. Not eating to loose weight is dangerous and unhealthy. The leg cramps could be due to many reasons but lack of potassium comes to mind. If you are not nourishing your body properly it could be a nutrient deficiency which can be corrected easily. However, I would go see a doctor just to be sure.

Have you thought about looking into counseling to discuss some of the emotional issues you are dealing with? If you do have an eating disorder than it is simply a manifestation of some deeper emotional issues that you are trying not to deal with. EDs, much like alcoholism or drug addictions, are just a symptom of something else.

I hope this helps and I hope you will come back for support.

Love & hugs, Kristina

Hi citygrl22,

I agree with Kristina that it is probably a result of malnourishment, and low potassium levels can cause it.

Also, please get to the doctor for a physical.

Oh mi I don't do drugs and I don't
drink (alcohol) much. I have thought
about the leg cramps and when they
came about. I got sick about a week
ago with a bad bladder infection. I
got 3 scripts. Cipro,pyridium,and
darvocet. The last two are for pain.
The first one is for the infection.
I am starting to wonder if any of
these meds are causing the cramps.

Call your doctor immediately -- I was unaware you had just started meds.

ALWAYS, call your doctor first about side effects when starting medications!
