Recovering bulimic... question

I was recently treated in the hopsital for impacted bowels, a severe stomach infection, and an ulcer, all caused by the lovely bulimia. It has scared me enough to want to change, but after a week of not being bulimic, I'm horrified that I've gained close to five pounds in ONE WEEK!!!!! Even as a bulimic I never binged--I just threw up everything I put in my mouth, which was about 1200 calories a day. ANyway, my eating habits have not changed. I still eat pretty healthy and I evercise, but I'm horrified at the weight gain. Has anyone else recovering from mia experienced some weight gain during their recovery? Will it come off? Will it be harder now that I'm no longer bulimic? Any help would be appreciated! I'm shocked and very upset by this. TIA!

Could this also contribute my recent rapid weight gain? My dietitian has added 2 servings of grain back into my no-carb diet. And in less than a week I gained four pounds! I am still eating the grains, though wanting to cry and feeling like a blimp. Would the same reasoning be for my weight gain? I used to eat many carbs, and did not contribute those to my feeling bloated or overweight. I also was eating more calories and fat and it makes no sense that i am eating a balanced diet and feel huge. ??????

Thank you so much, that helps tremendously! I will put my scale away. I didn't think it was physically possible to gain so much weight wihtout even eating the calories to cause the weight gain. I knew I was dehydrated, but I didn't think my body would hang onto everything! I also had a saline drip in the hospital so that's probably still floating around in there.... well I'm glad to know it will come off!!

Hi Magoo,

You'll have to ask your dietician about this. I think I read somewhere that it takes time for your body to get used to the fiber, and this might be what is happening! I might be wrong, though, so please give her a call :-)

Hi magoo ~~

These questions need to go to your dietician -- I'm not a professional, and any knowledge I have is just from personal experience.

Sorry about that --

Be sure to keep following your plan, you're doing a good job.
