Suggestions?

I am trying to think of a way to reward myself when I have a good day and don't engage in any eating disordered behaviors. I don't want the reward to involve food because I don't think that would be helpful to me. Does anyone have any suggestions??

Hi perfectstar. What an awesome idea! That's exactly what we all should be doing.

I actually have a follow up question for you to the question you asked: What are your five most favorite things to do and/or enjoy - non food related? Movies, a favorite television show, puzzles, bubble baths with a special kind of salt scrub? Anything! If you can identify your five favorite personal endulgences, that might be a great start on how to reward yourself. At the end of (or even midway through as encouragement) a great day.

If you can, it would be great if you could share at least part of your list...we could all use a reminder about how to pamper and reward ourselves.

Love,

A trip to a museum, a concert, a poetry reading, a nice walk with a friend...

A lot of museums have a day or an evening where they offer free entrance. There are also free concerts, or those offering a nice student discount.

What about giving yourself a manicure or a pedicure? A facial? Do something with your hair (temporarily colour it, get a product that will make it shine, etc).

Get yourself an aromatherapy set (either some incense, or an essential oil and a burner).

If you play games, give yourself an extra hour to play a game :-)

Learn a new craft or hobby, or if you already have a hobby, buy something for it. Start a new project.

Hi perfectstar,

I think something good would be to start rewarding yourself whether or not you consider you had a "good" day.

I've compiled this list a long time ago from suggestions of other people on another board & some were my ideas.

Hi perfectstar.

Those are all great things! I was thinking about your question more today and decided to explore it a bit on www.somethingfishy.org. On that website they have a page called "Coping Bank" with lots of coping suggestions (and a link to "more coping suggestions"). While some of these may be more for dealing with the hard times, it looks like some of the items on the list could double as rewards. Here are links to the two pages: http://www.something-fishy.org/reach/copingbank.php and http://www.something-fishy.org/reach/waystocope.php

Thanks for sharing your list too! Some of those are on my top-five list too...I enjoy: 1) going to see cheesey romantic comedy movies at the end of either a hard week or a week when I've met a major deadline; 2) reading in a bubble bath while listening to good music; 3) going for a walk with a friend; 4) doing either crossword puzzles or sudoku puzzles; and 5) reading in bed in my pjs on a Saturday or Sunday morning (or even a weekday if I feel like I need to play hookey from work) with my favorite coffee by my side.

So, after your good day(s) this week, which options might you choose to reward yourself?

hugs,

Yep - we also have to do something nice for ourselves on tough days.

Today I'm going to watch a movie. I haven't decided what yet, but I'm just going to chill and watch a movie. The week has been tough and I need a nice distraction.
