i dont know if i can mention numbers here, so feel free to edit my post if these trigger warnings arent enough...

*****trigger warning for cal #, weight loss #.*****

hi...

this is my first post here, and it's kinda hard. and i dont know if i have problem enough to belong here.

ive been restricting quite a bit for a few months now, and have lost over 50 lbs. then for the last couple of months, things really gripped me and ive been staying under 500 cals a day. and i started purging, but only once every week or so. but my weight is still towards to higher end of the healthy zone for my weight range.

the problem i'm having is that even though my weight is still so high, i've started losing my hair a few wks ago. now i dont know if im losing my hair because of the way i've been eating??? is this possible? i dont think i'm ana. for all kinds of reasons.

the other possiblity is that one of my bipolar medications is all of a sudden causing this to happen, which has happened before to other people according to research i did online.

im not sure what to think. has this happened to anyone before? and if so, what do i do?

thank you so much for any help at all...

Hi there,

I had a period of high stress some years ago and my hair seemed to come out in clumps.

yes, hair can become much thinner wihout proper nutrients. protein and vitamins make it full and healthy. but i think the med you're on probably has more to do with it. i just started a med called coumadin and my hair's falling out in clumps. a lot of meds will mess with hair!

Hi there hippie chick,

Well, I just learned something new, thank you for that!

How are you dealing with the hair loss?

I found a great hair product that helps your hair grow faster and helps thicken it! It's called Nioxin. I swear to God, this stuff works SO well! My hair still falls out, but with using the Nioxin, no one can tell that I'm losing hair just by looking at me. In fact, I think I'm losing less hair now that I'm taking the Nioxin. It's making the hair stronger, thicker and longer and prevents future thinness of my hair. I use the scalp treatment, shampoo and conditioner. You can find Nioxin at most any hair salons and it's labeled something like "for the early stages of thinning hair." It works wonders, believe me, and it's made of mostly natural ingredients.

I forgot to add: If you're interested in the Nioxin, look for it on the sale rack of the hair products, because they usually have some of it on sale at every hair salon I go into. :-)

Hallo there, friend!

Check with your doctors about your meds and their side effects. Take some supplements, too. Have you seen any changes with your skin? Has it become dryer and less radiant? If this is also the case, you might be needing an extra dose of vitamins, too. I know that not being able to eat properly has had this effect on me. I've been shedding a lot of hair lately, to a point where it gets a bit scary (fortunately, I have a lot of hair to begin with). My skin's also been horrible. It's normally a normal to oily combination, but lately it's been normal to dry, with very, very dry and rough spots here and there. So I've been taking a multi-vitamin capsule, as well as a B-complex tablet (which also helps with the depression) and vitamin E.

It happened to me. I've taken meds, too, that make my hair shed and it might be that. But, it also happened because my body was not getting enough of what it needed food wise. Once I started eating better the shedding when away. Now it only happend once in awhile and not very often. Anyone is welcome here. If you feel alone, or want to talk about what's on your mind here is a place to come. We have been there, and understand how hard it can be. Hugs, Anna
