Hi all, I am a 50 something gal that is fighting anorexia now for about 2 years. I was always very over weight & decided to do "another diet" I went from 185 down to 112 pounds. My doctor told me I was in danger as my height is 5'7. So now I am fighting to keep my weight up at 117 pounds which I find horrible & in my mind obese. I loved being a junior sized 3. I hate being a junior size 5 as I am now. Are there any other "middle aged" (I hate that term) females fighting anorexia?

Thank you Diana for the warm welcome. It feels good not to be alone & know there are many others of all ages with this problem.

Hi,

I am 39 and have dealt with eating disorders on and off since I was 12. Recent research has found you are not alone. The number of women over 40 with eating disorders unfortunately is growing. We all share the same basic problem, so you don't need to feel any different regardless of your age~ just like if you had a different income, or hobby.

Welcome to the board ;)

Thank you for the warm welcome. This morning I did my weigh in & was thrilled to see I had lost 1/2 pound. I have fought so hard to get from 112 to the 117 & now its back to the battle as I found myself saying how wonderful it would be to take off another pound. Its so strange at this age to be fighting this type of battle & a battle it is.

Hi!

Welcome to the board! I hope that you know that you are not alone in your journey! This is an unique environment where you'll hear from every kind of person and the great thing is - everyone can learn something from each other. Also, this board does provide a great support system whenever you need a little help. The doc that you speak of...is that a doc treating you for your anorexia?

Hi Catherine, the doc I was speaking about is my regular family internist that ran a full set of blood work on me when he saw me because he became alarmed. My blood work came back as if I had malnutrition & a host of other "bad" stuff. I am sick & tired of people coming up to me & asking me if the weight loss was my choice or am I sick. I just tell them it is by my choice as it was & still is & I do not have the big "C" as they may be thinking. Anyway, everyone on this board seems warm & friendly. Glad I found it.

Hi Annie!

I am right here with you. I am 39 years old and was diagnosed with anorexia (officially) last February. It is a miserable battle for me too. I stress if the scale goes up and I stress if it goes down! My labs were horrible back then too. Everyone said they were in the critical range, but they are better now. My white and red blood cell counts are still low and so is my blood sugar. I have only gained about 4 pounds, but I eat much better. I still don't eat enough and my body seems to not handle certain foods well, but I am getting better. I see a counselor weekly and my medical doctor monthly. I also saw a nutritionist weekly up until August.

Good luck to you! You are not alone.
