Hi all,
I just wanted everyone to be aware that some things we put in our messages can actually trigger ED behaviors in others. So, for everyone's safety and comfort on the board, please use your best judgment when posting.
Posts containing numbers -- weights, calories, and the like, can be very triggering to other members. I know that I have made this mistake, without realizing that it could just cause more anxiety in others. I honestly meant to do the exact opposite, help them feel better about theirs, and now I regret ever having said anything.
Descriptions of ED behaviors also can be triggering to people struggling with similar, or the same things. We can actually send each other backwards without meaning to.
*If you feel you have to disclose this type of information on the board, please put the word "triggers" in your discussion title, so that those people who do not wish to see them, don't have to.*
Thoughts and feelings are things that we all can understand, and help each other with, constructively. These are at the heart of our problems anyway, mostly distorted thinking about ourselves. Low self-esteem is something that we all have struggled with, whether or not we show it. Let's help each other with that, and other kinds of thoughts and feelings we have in common.
If you're thinking it, most likely someone else is, or has, too.
Vent away about how you are feeling! Happy, confused, stuck, obsessed, angry, jealous, about whatever. "Getting it out" might just help, and you could very likely be helping someone else.
We're all here to get help, and help one another. Use your best discretion -- & if you think your post might be triggering, again, please put that in the title of your discussion.
Thank you -- and much love and many gentle hugs to you all!
