Exercise and the 2WW

Since our last transfer I have been working really hard at getting back in shape. I work out every day, doing some sort of cardio whether it's walking (I'm up to 4 miles/day), a 30 minute workout video or yoga. I am religious about working out every day so I don't let myself lapse. I do take one day off each week and next week that will be the day of my transfer. What are your thoughts on continuing though after the first day of transfer? Keep in mind my frozen embies are 6 day old blasts so implantation should take place within that 24-36 hour period (theoretically, right?). Thanks!

Carolyn, what does your Dr. say? My Dr. recommended 48 hours of bed rest after transfer (they wanted me laying down as much as possible and then no strenuous exercise after that. I didn't exercise again until I was about 6-8 weeks pregnant. You're investing SOOOOO much in this, why take a chance of overexerting yourself? You're not going to lose much conditioning in 2 weeks, and if it doesn't work, you'll be beating yourself up about what if I'd only taken it easy? Just take it easy and let your body focus on getting pregnant. Plus, if you get pregnant you might feel very sick and not want to work out anyway till the 2T. Or you might be like me and feel great and be able to start working out again once you get your Dr's ok. This is just MHO, but it's what i did and what worked for me.

Good luck with this cycle, I am rooting for you!!

HI Carolyn, reading your post felt like I was looking in the mirror. I am also a fitness fanatic and have a hard time sitting still for too long.

Hey Amber,

great to hear from you! thank you for your advice. I agree with you completely however all the prior cycles I've rested and not even vacuumed my house for fear I would upset something and look where it got me so I thought I would put it out there and see what other people thought. I would totally regret if I didn't get pregnant and thought it was because of something I did or didn't do. I will see what my doctor says and follow their advice. thanks again! I hope you are feeling great and everything is going well still!

Well I am not a fitness fanatic but I've gained 20 lbs since last year when we started the IVF process and I've been miserable but almost always in a cycle and just didn't bother with exercise. Since this last miscarriage I fell into a slight depression and the exercise helped pull me out so I have developed a new appreciation for it and also just don't want to seem fanatical about something that may or may not play a part in this whole process. But I am totally aware that this is a big deal and will do as I am told but was just curious as to what others thought. Thanks for the advice and good luck to you...hopefully we'll be a string of BFP's for this board!

You didn't offend me at all...that is the problem with not actually "talking" to people on these boards, right? :) I appreciate your comments and advice. thank you again and no worries...no apologies necessary.

I am a yoga and aerobics instructor and I always stop teaching everything during the 2WW. The only thing I did was walk about 2 miles a day. When I got my BFP, I quit teaching all together until after my 1st trimester was over. I didn't want to do anything that might cause problems and make me m/c and then regret not taking it easy.

Hi Sarah -good info. I am going to check with my doctor and will do as he suggests. You are all right that it is better to be safe than sorry and perhaps he'll still let me walk (I walk about 3-4 miles/day). I have plenty of time to get in shape once baby is here. I want baby more than skinny thighs at this point. :--)

Thanks!

Whether you walk or not, skinny thighs *might* go on hiatus for a while ... pg tends to rearrange your body shape ;)

Wow Sarah, how do you stop teaching in every 2ww? I am also a fitness instructor. I teach 8 classes a week (4 cardio, 2 free weights and 2 yoga). My advice to you, which I will follow myself, is take it easy in the 2ww. I take it much easier in each of my 2ww, but I have only done natural cycles. When I get into my DE cycle/s, I will definitely take time off after the transfer. and if i'm lucky enough to get a bfp, i will take more time off or resume light light light exercise.

good luck!!!

Lynda
