AND A GOOD UPDATE IT IS!!!
My father so far has gone through 4 rounds of chemo. With each round he was mostly fatigued and experienced loss of appetite. Then towards his last chemo he started to experience numbess in his fingers and feet. The Tarceva he has been on has been giving him a horrendous rash all over his body and it is extremely uncomfortable....BUT...something is working!!
He had his second CT scan last Friday and got the results back today when he went in to complete his 5th chemo. Last time around the tumors in his Lung & LIVER shrunk 20%. This time...they shrunk another 30% to equal about 50% of shrinkage in his tumors. I guess the lung tumor shrunk just a little more than the liver but still a huge improvement overall!! Because of the numbess in his feet the doctor is too worried to do another round of chemo which scares me...I hope the numbess goes away and I am not too sure what that means?? I hope his nerve endings arent damaged or anything.... The doc. set up his next appnt. for Jan. 1st!!! WOW!! That is great but at the same time makes me worry about what will be going on during that timeframe. The doc. said that it takes usually 3-6 mos for cancer to start growing again...does this sound familiar? We are not sure which is working either the Tarceva or the chemo but they will keep dad on the Tarceva and hopefully it will keep the disease stable. Is the disease even consider...stable?? The doc. didnt really say. I am also thinking of pushing dad to look into this radiofrequency ablation technique for the liver because his tumor has shrunk to almost a size that I think could work. I dont know really how to move forward on that because the doc. hasnt mentioned anything about it and I dont think is willing to do it....he wasnt to thrilled when i mentioned it in the beginning. Ughhh.... Anyway, my father has a friend who has been taking this alternative medicine called Iscador and he has had amazing results from it and my father was thinking in the meantime to try it. What do you think??? It has been proven that it doesnt interfere with chemo or other more traditional medicine. Just wondering what you ladies thought about this?
Judy how are the treatments going?? I hope you are hanging in there... My father now sees a light at the end of the tunnel and will go into treatments knowing that there is an end to them and life after them again. I bet that is how you get through them as well.
Thanks for listening...
Sarah
