Update on my dad

Hello! I am back with an update. I'm sorry I have not been around for 2 weeks, but I have managed to put the issue out of my mind until today, when my dad had his appointment with the surgeon. I read your response to me, Judy, thank you for the information!
So he went for his appt. today. The doc's secretary will call to set up an appt. for the surgery, after which he will spend a week at the hospital (or maybe 5 days?), and 3 more weeks at home. That means he won't be able to work for a month, which is an issue (he makes significantly more than my mom, so serious financial decisions will have to be made). But this is irrelevant when it comes to his health, so this is not the first priority right now.
The update is - the surgeon said that the tumor does not appear to be large. That's good news, right? I guess it still could have spread without the origianl tumor being large? What do you think? Is that a good sign that it's not large? I know the final call will be made after the surgery...
Also... as far as his job... He is a software engineer for a big communication company (not that it might matter). Do you know if any company will let you have a whole month off (disability, maybe?) without termination? After this initial month off, is a person normally able to return to work? (provided the treatment is effective). What about chemo and radiation - how much do these treatments effect a person's life?
Thank you for support and information!
