Urgent info needed for 2 year old ALL

My friend's son is 2 years old and just 2 weeks ago got diagnosed with ALL. He started running a high fever for about 5 days after one of his spinal taps and had a seizure. They did what they said was just a routine MRI on his brain because of the seizure and it shows several small brain lesions. They say it is not what they see with early chemo. I believe he has only had 2 chemo sessions at the most 3. They are saying it could be encephalitis. The mom said she looked it up and it says no cure or meds for encephalitis and that he would not make it passed several months if that is the case. Has any one had this happen to their child and had a better outcome then she is thinking? She is devistated and there has to be some hope. They are waiting 2 days to do another spinal to check something about it or another full MRI. He had a spinal to check for Menigitis and it came back neg 2 days ago so wouldn't that help show that it is not encephlitis? I just want to give her some hope. She seems to have just given up thinking he is going to be ok.
THanks in advance.

Thank you so much for the encourageing words. He had a marrow test that showed 4% blasts only left so that is good news at least. They did another MRI to see about the lesions. NO word yet. He has no fever now so that is encouraging.

HI,

He is doing better. He was playing today they said in the playroom. He counts went up to 130. He gets another round of chemo I think today or tommorrow so they will go back down. SInce he is more alert and counts going up a little and no fever, wouldn't that rule out that threat of encephalitis that was the worry about the brain lesions? Seems if it was something like that that he would steadily go down not up.

thanks!

Unfortunately I don't know much about encephalitis either and I see Philly has given you some links for info which should help answer some of your questions.
