I found out this week that my mother has stage 4 lung cancer. She went today to see what her options were.....and well they give her a year. I know that we are not promised tomorrow....but you never are prepared for someone to tell you that they have 1 year to live. It is so final. I think the hardest part for me is dealing with my 9 year old daughter and my mom not getting to see her grow up. She is the only grandchild....
I am sort of in denial right now.....my stomach is in knots. So many things rush through your mind - things you want to say and do. Anyone out there that is going through this or already has....please let me hear from you. Right now my mom is feeling fine and is doing well......but I am scared for what is to come.
Thanks for all your prayers.

Hi there...
I am going through the same thing. I had all of the same feelings/emotions that you did when I first found out that my father has stage IV lung cancer. My father's cancer spread from his left lung to his liver and now his lymph nodes are involved. Half of his liver is overtaken by cancer.I dont know your mother's situation exactly but I do know that there is hope. Stage IV lung cancer does not have to be an immediate death sentence. New drugs are being tested as we speak and chemotherapy has come a long way over the years. I was just as scared as you in th beginning but you have to stay positive and know that most people do react to chemo and it can add years to ones life in addition to the new drugs such as Tarceva & Avistan that are out there specifically for lung cancer. I lost my mother in a car accident and now my father is sick and I also have a daughter (she is 9 mos and the only grandchild) so I know how hard it is. I would say be grateful that your daughter is able to spend this precious time with your Mom and will remember her well I am sure. There are many resources & support groups on the internet for lung cancer if you do some searches you will find plenty. Please keep me updated on your Mom and ask any questions as my father was diagnosed back in June so I have been going through this for a little while. Also just to give you some more hope my father's tumors shrunk 50% from chemo treatments and Tarceva (which I am sure you will learn more about soon).
My prayers go out to you and your family.

It is always such a shock to receive this type of news.
Hello
I haven't posted on this board before but I have been reading the post for awhile now.
I'm sorry to hear about your mom I know it is so hard to go through. My mom has stage 3 lung cancer we found out in June.
So far things have went well she had 9 chemo treatments and 33 radiation treatments. She just had a PET scan last week and they said the spots are smaller so we will see.
I hope that you have great doctors and everything goes well. I'll try to check back soon.
Take care
Misty

Thanks Philly and Judy for the good vibes!!! We are all hoping and praying for the BEST. My mom is really strong willed so she has done GREAT!! I'm so proud of her. Hopefully the good Lord will see to it that the treatments have and will work.
Best of Luck to everyone my prayers and thoughts are with you.
Take care and I'll try to check back in.

hello,
I just found out my sister has the same kind of cancer, it is the hardest thing i ever had to deal with, she is the only person in my life who has always been there for me & i could always count on her, i just wrote her a letter letting her know just how inportment she is to me, its hard not to cry every time we talk. she lives in washington & i in idaho i would like to go & be with her but i cant.
let me know how things go from time to time sounds like we might be a good support for one another
