Hi my husband was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2005. It was so shocking because at the time he was 39 yrs old. With further testing we found out it spread to the liver. He did chemo for 6 months every two weeks. When doc order the cat scan it appeared thta the tumors has shrunk in his liver, so he was doing well. The doc put him on avastin to shrink the tummors and irrotecean? spelling) Well four month later we found out the tummors had grown back and cancer may had spead to lungs and limphnodes. Well after another 8 months of chemo were back to tummor getting smaller and cancer under control. MY question is i need help. I need help financially i'm going to loose my house because my husband is not working like he use to. I work but is not enought to pay the morgage and other bills. Is there any charity or any programs out there that can help people with cancer struggling. I have two little one and i so scared. We have no family. I dont want to be in the streets. Can you guys give me some advise and tell about some programs out
there i'm so lost i dont know what to do.

Hi - I'm so sorry for everything you and your family are going through. My mom was diagnosed last year with colon cancer with mets to the liver and lungs. She had her 6th treatment yesterday. Right now, we're just coping with the day to day issues of chemo's side effects and praying that the chemo works. Her CEA level has gone from 359 to 10.5 and that's a good sign.
Have you talked with the oncologist's office about financial matters? When we found out the cost of my mom's treatment, the finance office told us about a patient assistance program. We applied and she was able to get some partial help. While it did help out, it has run out. She is on Medicare (over 65 insurance) and still has to pay over $1,800 for each treatment. The office told us that if she had her treatment in the hospital, the hospital *might* write off what Medicare did not pay, but we discussed it and decided that she would be better served in the oncologist's office. The nurses there are prepared for the various issues that could come up during treatment. Plus, they are more "on schedule" and at the hospital she might be there all day.
So....I would suggest that you call the financial or business office of the oncologist's office and ask for their guidance.
Hope this helps and God bless you all.
Hi Maria
I wish I had a lot of answers.
