I am so lost. The Dr's have said surgery to remove the stomach is not an option, only Chemo. I can barely type this through the tears. Has anyone ever dealt with someone with Gastric Cancer? I don't know what to do. I am trying to stay strong.

Hello there,

Your pain reminds me of what me and my family went through in January of this year when my father in law was diagnosed with extensive stage small cell lung cancer with metastasis.

We all spent days in a kind of fog....all crying and very upset. I felt like I'd been kicked in the stomach again and again. Of course, with this type of cancer the prognosis isn't good at all. We were told that chemo was the only option. It was and has been a very upsetting time indeed.

After all the initial shock wore off, we all got ready for the battle.

This is a very close knit family & we all pulled together like never before to support each other through this. The focus is on my father in law - making sure he gets to and from all the doctor appointments as needed, making sure he is getting good nutrition (he's lost over 50 pounds since being diagnosed), making sure all of his needs and my mother-in-law's needs are being taken care of.

All I can tell you is that I think at times it is good to cry, it is good to lean on a partner, a good friend, a sister, or a sister in law & talk things through.

Hang in there, stay strong, do your best to keep positive thoughts, and be there for your dad.

I feel like my family is in the trenches of a great big war against cancer right now. I don't know if we are winning, but I do know we are fighting like hell.

Good luck to you and to your family. God bless you all.
