Hi, my name is Gretchen and I'm twenty-one years old.
Today, for the second time, I've been told my platelet count is low. No one knows why. No one knew why my WBC count went up either...they don't know whats wrong..or why I'm in pain...
Over the past few years, I've been sick non-stop. I hear "your livers inflammed" or "your platelets are low" or "your wbc is kinda high" on and off. I've had stomach/gyno/neuro issues for the past year and had a ovarian cystectomy in June (Dermoid Cyst).
I guess I'm just concerned because leukemia runs in my family. In fact, my grandma and great grandma and grandfather on my father's side all died of cancer (women from leukemia at 52, and I'm not sure what kind of cancer he had). I know I'm a lot younger than they were when they passed away but it's like I'm never well. I was diagnosed with an autonomic disorder called Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (aka POTS) a couple months ago but my specialist doesn't know what's causing it (he says there's always an underlying cause) They've done a colonoscopy/endoscopy, a sleep study, a brain MRI, a chest xray, a sleep deprived EEG, a routine EEG, a pelvic MRI, 3 pelvic ultrasounds, a pelvic CT scan, free T4 Testing (for thryoid issues) a tilt table test, all STD testing twice just this year alone and they seem perplexed. They only removed the cyst because of it's nature and that I was in pain but didn't know why I was in pain over a 2cm cyst. The pain vanished after the operation and now 6 months later, it's back. With the nauseua, vomiting, and dull aching pelvic pain and muscular pain (in my legs and arms).
I am so confused. I have several specialists but never a hemotologist. I don't really want ANOTHER specialist (I'm still paying off my gastroenterologist, my neurologist, my gynocologists, and autonomic specialist and all my ER bills from my strange POTS attacks)
Please, someone, help?

Hello and welcome to the board.
I understand your concern since almost all the members of my Mom's family have passed from cancer.
